ROH Dragon Gate Invasion (8/27/2005)- Williamsville, NY
GOOD TIMES, GREAT MEMORIES WITH HOMICIDES- Cide is trying to be serious and tell his life story, but Cabana is being annoying and insensitive and Cide doesn’t appreciate it. This would kick off their ultra-violent feud in which Cide would attempt to cut Cabana’s tongue and attempt to murder him by pouring Drano down his throat.
RICKY REYES vs. PUMA- 5.5/10
NIGEL MCGUINNESS PROMO- great
FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH: Jimmy Jacobs vs. Kevin Steen vs. Chad Collyer vs. Davey Andrews- 6/10
EL GENERICO vs. HOMICIDE- 6.75/10
SHINGO TAKAGI vs. CURRY MAN- 6/10
A disappointing match, considering the talent involved. I would have MUCH rather seen Christopher Daniels than Curry.
CURRY MAN PROMO- He starts out the promo by saying ‘I have only wrestled in the US once, so you’ll have to excuse me if my English is a little rusty,â€â€¦ but he says it in his normal voice in perfect English. Hilarious! He then puts Shingo over on the mic and shakes his hand. See! That right there is proof that Daniels and Curry Man not the same person! 2005 Christopher Daniels would NEVER shake someone’s hand in an ROH ring!
ROH PURE TITLE MATCH: Samoa Joe(c) vs. Nigel McGuinness-7/10
Good storytelling with Nigel working over Joe’s arm and just doing everything he can to infuriate Joe. A great introduction to Nigel’s title reign.
CHAD COLLYER BACKSTAGE PROMO- decent. Then Homicide shows up and tells Sean Price that if he wants a scoop tonight, he just needs to follow him and bring the camera. This doesn’t sound good for Cabana.
CHRISTOPHER DANIELS & SHANE HAGADORN SEGMENT- Shane Hagadorn, the obnoxious jobber from the ROH Wrestling Academy starts shoving Daniels. Sorry guys. You don’t get any extra pick’ems points for guessing how this one ends.
AUSTIN ARIES & RODERICK STRONG vs. THE EMBASSY (Jimmy Rave & Spanky) (w/Alex Shelley & Jade Chung)- 7/10
The Embassy use a weapon to get the win, so after the match Aries tells them that Generation Next is going to escalate the war.
AJ STYLES vs. CIMA- 7.5/10
A very underwhelming finish, and pretty disappointing for a dream match.
SAMOA JOE PROMO- good
ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: James Gibson(c) vs. Colt Cabana- 7.5/10
HOMICIDE JUMPS CABANA IN THE PARKING LOT- good.
Everything on this show ranges from good to great, but both the ROH World Title match and the two big international matches didn’t deliver, especially AJ vs. CIMA, which makes this show feel disappointing.
