TNA Genesis 2013 (1/13/2013)- Orlando, FL
TNA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Chavo Guerrero Jr & Hernandez(c) vs. Joey Ryan & Matt Morgan- 4.5/10
The last minute of the match was great. The rest of it was dull.
MR. ANDERSON PROMO-good
SAMOA JOE vs. MR. ANDERSON- 5/10
A decent match which ends when Mike Knox distracts Joe, allowing Anderson to hit him with a Mic Check. The finish was completely killed for be by one thing, though. They just unmasked Knox less than two weeks ago, and made such a big deal about how losing his mask would hurt Aces & Eights because (in the words of the leader of Aces & Eights) â€"anonymity is power…†and yet none of the announcers said Knox’s name! In fact, Taz and Keneley both just referred to him as a â€"member of Aces & Eights†just like they do for the masked guys whose identities we don’t know.
KENNY KING PROMO- AWESOME!
WINNER GETS AN X-DIVISION TITLE SHOT LATER TONIGHT: Kenny King vs. Christian York- 5.5/10
York wins the match, but Kenny King attacks him after the match.
During this match, Tenay mentioned that Kenny King also works as a Chippendale’s dancer in Las Vegas, to which Keneley said â€"hey Mike, don’t you live in Vegas?†Tenay, not sounding too happy about this comment at all, just responded â€"Really?†Uh-oh. Looks like Tod Keneley may well be headed to wrestlers’ court once this PPV is over.
TNA X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH: Rob Van Dam(c) vs. Christian York- 4/10
I am guessing that the aftermath of the last match and the lack of involvement by Kenny King in this one are due to the new PPV schedule. Normally they would have King attack both guys here and set up a triple threat for next month’s PPV, but now they will likely have York and King feud while RVD feuds with someone else until they can build to a triple threat match at Lockdown in March instead.
JOSEPH PARK PROMO- decent character stuff, but not particularly interesting or exciting.
JOSEPH PARK vs. DEVON- 6.25/10
Told it’s story beautifully, but not much in the way of action. Chris Parks is just plain phenomenal. IO also really liked the swerve at the end with him snapping back to Joseph Park mid-Chokeslam attempt and getting rolled up as a result. Devon then attacks Joseph after the match because he is dick.
AUSTIN ARIES PROMO-
KNOCKOUTS GUANTLET MATCH FOR #1 CONTENDERSHIP TO THE TNA KNOCKOUTS’ TITLE: Gail Kim vs. Miss Tessmacher vs. ODB vs. Mickie James vs. Velvet Sky- 4.75/10
I liked Gail finding various heelish ways to get the advantage to counteract the fact that she isn’t fresh. What I didn’t like was that a five woman gauntlet only got twelve minutes or so. That is an average of about two and a half minutes per match, which, when you think about it, makes the Knockouts look pretty pathetic. The finishes to the last two matches set up some interesting possibilities. Also, what happened to Madison Rayne? Isn’t she on the roster? Why wasn’t she in this match? And speaking of missing Knockouts, where was the champion? How do you not have your champ in some role on PPV? Why not have her do guest commentary and allow her to at least be visible?
DANIELS PROMO- This was just plain great. Also, JB tells us that the Daniels vs. Storm match will now be a #1 contendership match. Any reason this wasn’t announced before now?
WINNER BECOMES #1 CONTENDER TO THE TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE AFTER GENESIS: James Storm vs. Christopher Daniels (w/Kazarian)- 7/10
Not sure I have ever seen Daniels put anyone away with an STO before, but other than that, a great match.
BROOKE & BULLY RAY SEGMENT- WASTE OF TIME!
First of all, isn’t Bully still suspended? So why is he allowed on the PPV?
Secondly, and most importantly, why the hell is this segment even happening? All it did was waste time. They come out, name some celebrities they are going to invite to the wedding (won’t it be hilarious when none of them show up on Impact?), then they invite all of the fans to the wedding. Umm… you’re getting married on a nationally broadcast TV show that I regularly watch. I’m pretty sure that means I’m invited by default.
STING vs. DOC- 3.25/10
Sting beats Doc in less than ten minutes, and dominates most of the match. Yet again, Aces & Eights are made to look pathetically weak. After the match, six Aces & Eights guys surround Sting, but Bully Ray comes out and scares them off, despite their six-on-two numbers advantage. Compare this to the Shield, always use their numbers advantage and usually come out on top because of it. The worst part about this is that it would have made a whole lot more sense to Aces & Eights to run if you had Bully, Joe, Garrett, and Wes Brisco all come out armed with weapons, it would have made sense with the storyline that the locker room is â€"united†against Aces & Eights (as Tenay loves to remind us), and it would have gotten more guys on the PPV… but instead TNA decides to do the dumb thing that makes Aces & Eights look like losers.
BOBBY ROODE PROMO- eh.
TRIPLE THREAT ELIMINATION MATCH FOR THE TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Jeff Hardy(c) vs. Bobby Roode vs. Austin Aries- 7.5/10
I think we all know exactly how this match was going to play out right from the beginning, but that doesn’t change the fact that these three did a damn fine job telling the story.
The spot where Jeff fought off the Stack-plex then hit Aries and Roode with a Whisper in the Wind was freakin’ awesome. So was Aries countering a Spear into a Last Chancery.
Props to Keneley for actually treating the Payoff as the finisher that it has been in the past. On the other end of this spectrum, Tenay says (paraphrasing) ‘think of all the wrestlers that Roode has put away with the Double R Spinebuster’ and I can’t think of any!
The crowd tonight was much hotter than crowds at the Impact Zone tend to be nowadays, so it is disappointing that such a great crowd was wasted on this stinker.
Overall, a very bad show from TNA. One of the worst I can remember. Having less PPVs a year won’t let won’t make people buy your PPVs if you keep putting on crap like this.
STUPID ANNOUNCER QUOTES:
1. JB â€"Yet to come, the return of The Icon, Sting, as he goes one-on-one with Doc from Aces
& Eightsâ€
What return? He just went one-on-one with a member of Aces & Eights three days ago on Impact!
2. Keneley (about getting into a striking contest with Samoa Joe) â€"wasn’t it Roddy Piper who said ‘don’t throw rocks at a man with a machine gun.†This is a good comment. Taz’s response to it, however, was not.
Taz- â€"Yeah. I remember that. That was funnyâ€

3. Taz (about Storm, while he and Daniels were brawling on the outside)- â€"he broke the count to avoid a count-out. That’s the mark of a true veteran.â€
Right. Because it takes years of wrestling experience to realize that getting counted out is bad.
