TNA Destination X 2006 (3/12/2006)- Orlando, FL
JAY LETHAL vs. ALEX SHELLEY- 6/10
Tenay was at his most annoying, here, constantly saying â€"yes†before every statement as if he was answering some unasked question.
SCOTT D’AMORE PROMO- good.
LANCE HOYT vs. MATT BENTLEY (w/Traci)- 5/10
Props to Tenay for pointing out how ridiculous it was that the director would tell him to pitch it to JB doing crap in the rafters while a match is going on. The only reason they did this the way they did was to have a pointlessly screwy finish.
PROMOS BY RHINO, TEAM 3-D, & RON KILLINGS- Bubba & Rhino were both great, Truth did a nice little one verse rap, and Devon said â€"TESTIFY!†Then, once Truth walked away, Bubba turns to Devon and says â€"you have to teach me Ebonics.†BRILLIANT!
THE NATURALS vs. TEAM CANADA (Bobby Roode & Eric Young) (w/Scott D’Amore & A-1)- 6.25/10
Damn cheating Canadians
MONTY BROWN PROMO- very good, as usual.
â€"BULLET†BOB ARMSTRONG & THE JAMES GANG vs. LAX (Konnan, Homicide, & Machete)- 3.75/10
Not very good. The ref made no attempt to stop them from using various weapons. Konnan oversold for Bullet Bob and it looked bad.
GOOFY STUFF WITH EY, JB & ALEX SHELLEY- goofy.
CHRIS SABIN vs. PUMA vs. SONJAY DUTT vs. PETEY WILLIAMS (w/A-1)- 7.5/10
Matches like these remind you why you fell in love with the X-Division in the first place.
PLANET JARRETT PROMOS- Mitchell was awesome, as always, then EY shows up and he and Jarrett say some stuff about Sting.
EIGHT MAN TAG TEAM WAR: Team 3-D, Ron â€"The Truth†Killings, & Rhino vs. America’s Most Wanted, Jeff Jarrett, & Abyss (w/James Mitchell, Jackie Gayda, & Gail Kim)- 6.75/10
This definitely felt like a war, but didn’t get enough time. Another five minutes could have made this great. Another ten would have made this awesome.
JEFF JARRETT CALLS OUT STING- horrific segment. Jeff says that if Sting doesn’t come out by the count of ten, it proves that Sting has left TNA forever. Jeff gives Sting a lot more time than he said he would, and still Sting doesn’t come out. If you were going to do the Sting stuff at the end of the show, what was the purpose of this segment?
SAMOA JOE PROMO- Great!
ULTIMATE X MATCH FOR THE TNA X-DIVISION TITLE: Samoa Joe(c) vs. Christopher Daniels vs. AJ Styles- 7/10
AJ & Daniels finally shake hands after the match.
CHRISTIAN PROMO- eh
NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Christian Cage(c) vs. Monty Brown- 7/10
Monty works over Christian’s injured ribs (although Christian could have sold it better) until Christian comes back and gets the win. Christian didn’t get close to enough offense in before getting the win in order to pin someone like Monty Brown.
THE AFTERMATH- Jeff Jarrett comes out and he and Christian exchange promos, then come to blows. Monty Brown, Rhino, and the entirety of Planet Jarrett come out and get involved, and the numbers game means the babyfaces get their asses kicked. Chris Harris handcuffs Christian to the ropes and the heels all whip him until Sting (sans facepaint) leaps over the guardrail and singlehandedly takes ALL OF PLANET JARRETT! That’s TEN GUYS! All by himself. Sting starts whipping Jarrett while the heels just surround the ring and watch… even when Sting locks Jarrett in the Scorpion Death Lock, meaning that his back has to be exposed to at least some of the heels… no one comes in to help Jarrett.
Then Scott Steiner jumps the guardrail and he comes in and attacks Sting from behind, and one shot from Steiner is enough to pretty much incapacitate Sting (who, if you’ll remember, just took out ten guys all by himself). Then the heels all viciously beat Sting down.
This whole segment was just poorly executed. There were just too many heels here, which made both Sting beating them all up and then them all just watching while waiting for Steiner to show up look ridiculous. Team Canada didn’t need to be involved here at all. All you needed was Abyss (to both set up his feud with Christian, justify and Rhino’s involvement), Monty Brown, Jarrett, and Shelley (so Sting could get his hands on Shelley for violating his privacy. The concept of this segment was good, and it did feel like a PPV quality moment, but the execution was very poor.
Overall, an okay show from TNA.
BONUS MATERIAL (from the pre-show):
Simon Diamond Promo- more build to the baseball feud. Tenay got WAY too bent out of shape about Simon insulting the Cardinals.
SHARK BOY & NORMAN SMILEY vs. THE DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH (w/Simon Diamond)- 3/10
Norman was super over.
