TNA Destination X 2011 (7/10/2011)- Orlando, FL
KAZARIAN vs. SAMOA JOE- 6.25/10.
Not the match I would have chosen to open this show, but I am very glad that they didn’t make Ultimate X the opener
Good pre-match promo by Doug Williams. It explained everything about this new guy. I am still disappointed that we didn’t get Petey Williams or Sonjay Dutt back, though.
DOUG WILLIAMS vs. MARK HASKINS- 5/10.
Haskins was impressive, and his slip was unfortunate. JB, however, did a great job of using the slip to put Haskins over on commentary. He has been extremely impressive so far.
AUSTIN ARIES PROMO- F*CKING AMAZING!
GENERATION ME vs. ERIC YOUNG & SHARK BOY- 3.5/10
Just a few of Young Bucks spots, and that was all this match really was. Also, the booking was MORONIC! The established team loses to the semi-makeshift team of one perennial jobber and one comedy wrestler! WTF?!
ZEMA ION PROMO- good
ULTIMATE X MATCH FOR #1 CONTENDERSHIP TO THE TNA X-DIVISION TITLE: Alex Shelley vs. Shannon Moore vs. Amazing Red vs. Robbie E (w/Cookie)- 5.75/10.
X-tremely lame and disappointing, as far as Ultimate X matches go!
LOW KI PROMO- great
ROB VAN DAM vs. JERRY LYNN- 7.5/10
Told a great story, and JB did a great job helping them tell it. They also did a great job of using the chair in ways in which the wrestlers have enough plausible deniability as to not require a DQ.
JACK EVANS PROMO- good
MATCH FOR A TNA CONTRACT: Austin Aries vs. Zema Ion vs. Low Ki vs. Jack Evans- 8/10!
ABYSS PROMO- stupid
TNA X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH: Abyss(c) vs. Brian Kendrick- 7/10
... but five star story-telling here. Absolutely BRILLIANT overbooking! The first X-Division charge on Immortal was an AMAZING TEASE, and needing about 10 guys to take out Immortal made the Immortal big-men (Gunner, Steiner, Bubba) still look strong.
AJ STYLES vs. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS- 8.25/10
The perfect way to cap off this PPV.
JB wasn’t great, but he did provide some good insights. He also definitely has a sportscasters’ voice (think Vince or JR) , which works in his favor. Tenay wasn’t good… but he did manage to avoid saying anything stupid, which is a monumental task for him.
Overall, this show was very good, bordering on great, and was easily the best TNA PPV in a long time.
