AJPW Champion Carnival 2019 Day 10

Atsuki Aoyagi, Atsushi Maruyama, Jun Akiyama, & Zeus vs. Black Menso-re, Dan Tamura, Hokuto Omori, & Takao Omori - 4/10

The visual of Zeus being tagged in and Tamura running away in fear the some of the greatest little things i've seen with these young kids. Aside from Zeus beating up Old Man Omori, this was the same stuff we've seen with Black Menso-re doing stuff with Akiyama and Maruyama, who again asked for the tag and got pinned by Omori's lariat. Nothing match.

Hideki Sekine, Jake Lee, & Koji Iwamoto vs. Hikaru Sato, Shuji Ishikawa, & Yusuke Okada - 5.5/10

Sekine had his own entrance and got flowers before the match. Hideki Sekine is Shrek Sekine from the ONE Championship MMA promotion, and I don't remember him ever having another match, for all I know, this is his debut? I'm guessing that's it for him in MMA after his 3 match losing streak.

Anyway, We got the usual Iwamoto vs Sato awesomeness. We got Ishikawa pairing up with Hideki, who became babyface in peril for a bit, and at the end, we got Lee pinning Okada with the High Angle Backdrop. Hideki looked good in there.

Champion Carnival 2019 Block A Match
Gianni Valletta (0) vs. Yuji Okabayashi (4) - 5/10

As damaged as Valletta is, I was thinking this was a good hoss fight and that Valletta could credibly pick up the win by how things were going, but then there was a ref bump, a low blow, and a chain strike for him to pick up his first win, completely leaving him at the same position.

Champion Carnival 2019 Block A Match
Atsushi Aoki (0) vs. Yuma Aoyagi (4) - 8/10

Good submission based match with Aoyagi chasing the End Game while Aoki worked on the arm, likely chasing the Trap Over. The only thing that I would have either taken away, or moved towards the end were Aoyagi's springboard crossbodies. The last few minutes were great, they barely hit second gear when Aoki survived a couple of germans, reversing the last one into a roll up for the win. Give these two 10 more minutes and they could have a classic. This is Aoki's first win, finally.

Champion Carnival 2019 Block B Match
Joe Doering (2) vs. Takashi Yoshida (6) - 6.5/10

Finally! Doering picks up a strong win! They kinda tried to do a big man vs small man match, but the small man here is actually Yoshida, who is like what? 280 lbs? Match saw a lot of shoulder tackles and Yoshida's offense pretty much relied on his throat thrusts. Doering won with his Crossbody. The match itself was nothing, but I got excited for the win, so there's that.

Kento Miyahara, Sam Adonis, & Yoshitatsu vs. Dylan James, Joel Redman, & Naoya Nomura - 7/10

They decided to put Adonis in the team of Miyahara and Yoshitatsu, and at least they didn't pretend they liked each other, as they kept tagging each other the hard way via kicks and chops, and they had tons of miscommunication. Match saw Redman dismantle Yoshitatsu, Dylan James beat up Adonis when the latter wasn't running away, and Nomura and Kento do a little big before all hell broke lose. Kento pinned Redman with the Shutdown German and some help from Yoshitatsu.

Adonis was great here, not as a wrestler, but just being a heel.

Champion Carnival 2019 Block B Match
Daichi Hashimoto (4) vs. Suwama (4) - 6/10

There was A LOT of shouting by the wrestlers in this match, but unfortunately, not by the fans. Well, except that girl that really really likes Daichi. This was an incredibly boring main event with Suwama working over Hashimoto's back forever, and then the young kid making a comeback, going after Suwama's legs. Towards the end of the match when they're both gassed out, seeing big moves or strikes was kinda cool, but I was already waiting for the finish at this point. Suwama won with a bridging backdrop.

Hashimoto really shouts a lot.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

Meh show, the match ups were not exactly noteworthy to being with and the only one I really wanted to see, delivered. The main event sucked and one again I wondered who is setting up the match order.
