ROH Showdown In The Sun: Day 1 (3/30/2012)- Ft. Lauderdale FL

PROVING GROUND MATCH: ROH World Tag Team Champions the Briscoe Brothers vs. Shane Haste & Mikey Nichols- 4.75/10
Haste & Nichols did not impress at all. The Briscoes won with a basic Doomsday Device, rather than their traditional srpingboard version, and for some reason, the referee had no problem whatsoever with BOTH BRISCOES making the cover for the pin.

JIM CORNETTE AND ADAM PEARCE SEGMENT- good set up for…

ADAM COLE vs. ADAM PEARCE- 5.75/10.
Good match, but I really didn’t like the finish. Let Cole win cleanly. If this is all building up to an NWA World Heavyweight Title match at some point (which I assume it is), I don’t see how Cole winning cleanly hurts Pearce as champ if it is just setting up for a title match.

TORNADO TAG TEAM MATCH: The Young Bucks vs. The All Night Express- 6.5/10
Good match and good aftermath.

EMBASSY PROMO- not very good

A note to the crowd: SHUT UP WITH THE “YES!” CHANTS! They’re not funny. Dragon is gone. How about cheering for someone actually ON THE ROSTER!

ROH TV TITLE MATCH: Jay Lethal(c) vs. Kyle O’Reilly- 6.5/10

WRESTLING’S GREATEST TAG TEAM vs. CAPRICE COLEMAN & CEDRIC ALEXANDER-6/10

LANCE STORM vs. “THE PRODIGY” MIKE BENNETT (w/Maria Kanellis)-7/10
Lance wasn’t quite a shadow of his former self (after all, he managed to carry Mike Bennett to a great match) but he definitely wasn’t performing up to the standards that we expect from Lance Storm. Good aftermath, though.

LAST MAN STANDING MATCH: Kevin Steen vs. El Generico- 9/10
Yeah, the turn was telegraphed, but this match was still AMAZING. Jimmy played his part perfectly and looked like an absolute psychopath. Steen and Generico really brought the hate and the violence. Steen mocking Generico as he took that last chairshot from Jimmy was AMAZING heel work. I can’t remember being that furious at a heel in a long time.

TRIPLE THREAT ELIMINATION MATCH FOR THE ROH WORLD TITLE: Davey Richards(c) vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Roderick Strong (w/Truth Martini)-8.75/10
Awesome stuff, and Elgin jumping Davey afterwards was great.

Overall, a great show from ROH. An eh first half escalating into an awesome second half. The crowd wasn’t too good, though. Between the “YES!” chants, chanting “CM PUNK!” at Maria (Yes, Punk used to be hitting that… but Bennett is now, so it is irrelevant!) and chanting “this is wrestling”… DURING A LAST MAN STANDING MATCH, they really got on my nerves.
