ROH 10th Anniversary Show: Young Wolves Rising
ROH 10th Anniversary Show: Young Wolves Rising (3/4/2012)- New York, NY
THE ALL NIGHT EXPRESS vs. WRESTLING’S GREATEST TAG TEAM- 6.25/10
Good opener, with Haas & Benjamin working over Rhett’s leg and Rhett playing the babyface in peril until making the hot tag.
HOMICIDE vs. “THE PRODIGY” MIKE BENNETT (w/Maria Kanellis & “Brutal” Bob Evans)- 5.75/10
Decent heel promo by Bennett before the match. The fans chant “CM Punk!” at Bennett and Maria, and these two played off of that during the match, with Cide teasing the Pepsi Plunge and GTS, both of which got big pops from the crowd. Anyway, this was a standard Mike Bennett match.
EDDIE KINGSTON & KEVIN STEEN SEGMENT- AWESOME stuff. Steen winds up calling CHIKARA “a bullsh*t Mickey Mouse promotion,” and they wind up brawling. Steen winds up picking up the CHIKARA Grand Championship, the The Colony and Jigsaw come out of the crowd to brawl with him.
AMAZING RED & TJ PERKINS vs. THE HOUSE OF TRUTH (Roderick Strong & Michael Elgin) (w/Truth Martini)- 6.75//10
ROH TV TITLE MATCH: Jay Lethal(c) vs. Tomasso Ciampa (w/The Embassy, Ltd.)- 7/10
ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Briscoe Brothers(c) vs. The Young Bucks- 7/10.
GREAT action!
PRE-MATCH SEGMENT WITH CORINO, JACOBS, & STEEN- GREAT! Corino doesn’t want the match to happen, but while Corino is talking to Steen, Jimmy jumps Steen from behind! And Corino yells at him for it. Jimmy is wearing the (formerly) white jacket from Man Up!
NO DISQULIFICATION MATCH: Kevin Steen vs. Jimmy Jacobs (w/Steve Corino)- 8/10
AMAZING storytelling here by Jimmy Jacobs, and I love the finish. I really can't wait to see what happens in this angle.
ADAM COLE & EDDIE EDWARDS vs. TEAM AMBITION (Davey Richards & Kyle O’Reilly)- a PERFECT 10/10!
WOW! In so many ways. This was just plain awesome. Lots of stiff kicks and chops, lots of great wrestling, and just some amazing storytelling. The goal of this match was to make Adam and Kyle look like they belonged in the ring with Eddie and Davey and this match did a superb job of that, culminating in the finish.
AFTERMATH WITH KYLE O’REILLY- decent, but it depends where they go with it. I want a good reason why Kyle doesn’t respect Adam Cole anymore. Something more than “you pinned Davey.” Something like “this was supposed to be a normal match, but you put me through a table.”
AFTERMATH WITH KEVIN STEEN- a great segment, but this was not the place to do it. This felt like something that should have been done on TV. I’m not saying that it wasn’t good build to Steen vs. Davey. I just think that it shouldn’t have overshadowed the stuff with Kyle.
Overall, an awesome show from ROH. THIS is the ROH I know and love, which has seemed to be missing for the last few months. ROH needed to bounce back strong after the major disappointment that was Final Battle 2011, and they definitely did that here. Awesome wrestling , great storytelling, and good build future shows all capped off with a PERFECT main event which made two new stars. The Young Wolves definitely rose to the occasion. The only real problem I had with this show was the crowd. which kept chanting "YES! YES! YES!" as a reference to Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan, which I found annoying. Definitely worth buying when it comes out on DVD.
