OPENING VIDEO PACKAGE - GREAT. Really made you think that this show would be an important moment in the history of both TNA and professional wrestling.
20 MAN X-DIVISION GAUNTLET - 7.75/10
Great opener, and it introduced you to a lot of the TNA talent.
KID KASH PROMO - Good segment
KID KASH, DALLAS, & THE NATURALS vs. ERIK WATTS, PAT KENNEY, JOHHNY B. BADD, & RON “THE TRUTH” KILLINGS - 4.75/10
MASCARITA SAGRADA vs. PIRATITA MORGAN - 4.5/10
Booking a minis match on your first PPV is a bad idea. People generally don’t take minis seriously, so it isn’t a good introduction to you promotion.
3 LIVE KRU PROMO - Good.
NWA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH:
Team Canada(c) (w/Scott D’Amore) vs. The 3 Live Kru (Konnan & B.G. James) - 5.25/10
RAVEN PROMO - Not so good. One of his worst rhymes.
SNUKA, PIPER & OTHERS SEGMENT - Very good.
MONTY BROWN PROMO - GREAT!
TRINITY PROMO - Great.
JACKIE MOORE vs. TRINITY (w/Glen Gilbertti & Johnny Swinger) - no rating. Great segment!
I hate the New York Connection SO MUCH right now!
DANIELS & SKIPPER PROMO - AWESOME!
MONSTER’S BALL MATCH:
“The Alpha Male” Monty Brown vs. Raven vs. Abyss - 6.25/10
Disappointing, considering all of the build for it .
“WHO IS IN THE LIMO?” MYSTERY SEGMENTS - Bad.
TEAM CANADA PROMO - Good.
TNA X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH:
Petey Williams(c) (w/Scott D’Amore) vs. AJ Styles - 7.75/10
LOVED IT! Great match.
ELIMINATION LAST TEAM STANDING MATCH:
America’s Most Wanted vs. Triple X (Elix Skipper & Christopher Daniels) - 4/10
The gimmick was slightly confusing and I really disliked that some of the pins were so close that the guy kicked out right afterwards, but had trouble answering the 10 count. It just seemed awkward. The stuff with James Storm’s leg was great, though. The aftermath was also great, and really helped to get you to feel the hate, which is important for new fans (which you assume you will have on your first PPV).
JEFF JARRETT PROMO - Good.
D.O.A. DECISION 2004 SEGMENTS - Goofy but short and enjoyable.
LADDER MATCH FOR THE NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE:
Jeff Jarrett(c) vs. Jeff Hardy - 7.5/10
I really disliked Jarrett’s selling (or lack thereof) during the last five minutes of the match.
AFTERMATH - Nash’s promo was okay, but the important part of this segment is that it made AJ look like the biggest babyface in the world, and made him look like a star on Nash’s level (as opposed to the 3 Live Kru, who pretty much got squashed. Randy Savage was a great surprise for the first PPV, but the way they ended it felt awkward. I would have had Savage and AJ clear the Outsiders and Jarrett out of the ring and have AJ and Savage standing tall in the ring together to close out the PPV.
Final Thoughts
Overall a very good first PPV from TNA, but nothing blow-away.
