ROH Global Wars 2015: Night 2
ROH Global Wars 2015: Night 2 (5/16/2015)- Toronto, ON
WILL FERRARA vs. KUSHIDA- 4.75/10
Ferrara tried, but no one bought that he had a snowball’s chance in hell of winning this match.
SILAS YOUNG vs. TAKAAKI WATANABE- 5/10
Good match. If Taka is staying around a bit, I’d have had Silas cheat to win to set up a final match between the two.
BJ WHITMER (w/The Decade) vs. MOOSE (w/Veda Scott & Stokely Hathaway)- SWERVE!
BJ makes COLBY face Moose instead!
COLBY CORINO (w/The Decade) vs. MOOSE (w/Veda Scott & Stokely Hathaway)- no rating. GREAT segment.
Moose totally murderizes Colby with powerbombs on the outside while Whitmer laughs and the announcers implore referee Gino Colucci to stop the match. This looked BRUTAL!
THE BRISCOES vs. THE HOUSE OF TRUTH (w/Truth Martini & Jay Lethal)- 6/10
Good post-match segment.
ADDICTION IN-RING PROMO- "someone" attacked Bobby Fish and thus he can't compete tonight so reDRagon won't get their tag title shot tonight.
ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Addiction(c) vs. "reDRagon" (but really it's just Kyle O'Reilly)- no rating. Awesome segment.
Kyle did a great job holding his own until Daniels hit him with the title belt for the blatant DQ. Kyle got beaten down, but ACH and Sydal showed up to make the save
JUSHIN "THUNDER" LIGER vs. DALTON CASTLE (w/his boys)- 6/10
The crowd loves Castle almost as much as Liger. I do not understand why.
"BRUTAL" BOB EVANS vs. CHEESEBURGER- no rating. Great segment. They had a fairly pedestrian match until, out of nowhere, we got a CRAZY finish. We've all become so numbed to table bumps over the years... but this one will snap you out of that!
THE BULLET CLUB (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson) vs. THE KINGDOM (Matt Taven & Michael Bennett) (w/Maria Kanellis)- 4.75/10
The Anderson/Maria stuff was a big mistake. They have done a great job of having the Kingdom be the babyfaces in Japan and heels in the US, and this hurt that a lot. The match itself was very short, which is not good for an ROH main event.
WAR MACHINE vs. THE DECADE (w/Colby Corino)- or not. Once again, BJ Whitmer makes Colby Corino take his place, so we get…
WAR MACHINE vs. ADAM PAGE & COLBY CORINO (w/BJ Whitmer)- no rating. Great segment.
Really fun interaction between Whitmer and the fans.
Page starts for his team… and immediately tags in Colby. Rowe tells Colby he’s not ready to face War Machine, so Colby slaps him across the face. Rowe has apparently known Colby for a long time and doesn’t want to kick his ass, so he tags Hanson in. Hanson beats Colby up some then Rowe comes back in to tell Colby to tag out. Colby doesn’t so Rowe kicks his ass. Page walks away to stop Colby from tagging out and Colby eats War Machine’s finisher.
Corino almost went after Whitmer. The fans were really hot for it.
CEDRIC ALEXANDER PROMO- he sounded really shrill and also needs to work on the emotional punches of his delivery. He did get the point across well, though, which was that he needs to pick up wins to prove to his family that his career isn’t just a waste of time… so he is calling out the undefeated MOOSE!
CEDRIC ALEXANDER vs. MOOSE (w/Veda Scott & Stokely Hathaway)- 6.5/10
Veda instructs Stokely to distract the ref, then she gives Moose a wrench, but Moose doesn’t want to cheat. Unfortunately for Moose, Cedric does, and he grabs the wrench, hits Moose in the head with it and PINS MOOSE!
HIROSHI TANAHASHI & TETSUYA NAITO vs. MATT SYDAL & ACH- 8/10
The Japanese were doing everything but cheat in order to be the heels, but the fans wouldn’t have it. The match was awesome.
TITLE VS. TITLE MATCH CONTRACT SIGNING- First Lethal said mean things about Briscoe, then Briscoe said stuff about Lethal. Their seconds (Mark and Truth) held them back, and the last image we see on our go-home show is a face-off between the two of them.
The cut away from a clearly still heated confrontation in the ring to go to the beginning of the next match feels a bit awkward on DVD as that is something that I don’t think ROH has ever done on a live event DVD before (when this aired on TV, the confrontation was the end of the previous episode of TV and the Roddy vs. Nakamura match was the start of a new episode).
RODERICK STRONG vs. SHINSUKE NAKAMURA- 8.5/10
As you would expect, there were lots of knees, and Roddy worked over Nakamura’s back as well. They had quite a few GREAT spots in here that added a lot of intensity to an already-huge match.
GEDO vs. MICHAEL ELGIN- 4.5/10
Elgin is strong. Gedo is small. You all know how the story goes.
CHAOS (Trent Barreta, Rocky Romero, & Kazuchika Okada) vs. THE BULLET CLUB (The Young Bucks & AJ Styles) (w/Doc Gallows & Karl â€"Machine Gun†Anderson)- 8.5/10
A GUILLOTINE LEGRANDE reference on commentary (by Corino, obviously).
Lots of awesome action here, and great teases for Dominion 7.5. This was a more tame version of the matches we’ve been seeing between AJ & The Bucks and the Kingdom, so if you thought those were too crazy, you should check this out.
This DVD didn’t really feel like an ROH show so much as it felt like a few episodes of the TV show with some super-awesome bonus matches- but that’s pretty much exactly what it was. It’s still well worth owning for the main event, the Roddy vs. Nakamura match, and the ACH & Sydal vs. Tanahashi & Naito match. I recommend that you pick it up as soon as possible because it might be gone soon.
