THE BRISCOES vs. THE HOUSE OF TRUTH (Truth Martini)- 5.75/10
A fun opener that was more about the House of Truth showing what they could do than it was about anything else.
PICK 6 CONTENDERS SERIES MATCH: Tyler Black(2) vs. Claudio Castagnoli(6) (w/Prince Nana & Ernesto Osiris)- 6.75/10
Fun match and some good athleticism.
SUPER SMASH BROTHERS vs. THE EMBASSY (Joey Ryan & Erick Stevens) (w/Prince Nana & Ernesto Osiris)- 5.5/10
Nothing remarkable here. SSB looked fine, but not particularly impressive in any way at all.
PICK 6 CONTENDERS SERIES MATCH: Kenny Omega(3) vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima- 5.25/10
This was a match that COULD have been great… except that Nakajima worked over Kenny’s knee the whole match AND KENNY BARELY EVER SOLD IT! That wasn’t the only problem with this match (I guess referee Paul Turner forgot that there are count-outs in ROH- or the fact that the DDT onto the entrance ramp led to absolutely nothing), but it was the most glaring and most damaging. It’s a real shame, too, because as I said, this match could have been awesome. They told a good story in Omega constantly going for the Croyt’s Wrath but never being able to hit it, and they did some GREAT stuff towards the end (especially with those superkicks), but Kenny’s lack of selling brought this down so much.
COLT CABANA & DELIRIOUS vs. KENNY KING & RHETT TITUS- 6/10
An entertaining match that made good use of the standard tag formula. There were also one or two times where the camera angle seemed to add to things. For example, They did a spot where Cabana was setting up for the Flying Asshole so they shot it from behind Rhett Titus, who was ready to take the move in the corner… but this allowed Rhett’s body to block your view of half of the ring so you didn’t see Kenny King zooming in to intercept Cabana until right before it happened. Was this done on purpose? Probably not. But it still added to my enjoyment of the match.
PICK 6 CONTENDERS SERIES MATCH: Roderick Strong(1) vs. Chris Hero (w/Shane Hagadorn)- 7/10
Would have been a 7.25 if Roddy had sold his knee towards the end.
KEVIN STEEN & EL GENERICO vs. THE YOUNG BUCKS- 8/10
ROH but the Bucks in a place where they had the chance to shine and the Bucks did just that.
ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Austin Aries(c) vs. Davey Richards (w/Shane Hagadorn)- 9.25/10
An AMAZING match marred only by the fact that the story of Aries working over Davey’s leg seems to have been forgotten about halfway through. This match was definitely worthy of the rare honor bestowed upon it by having the entire show named after it.
An awesome show from ROH with a must-see main event.
