ROH Dedicated (1/26/2007)- Braintree, MA

This show was dedicated to Doug Gentry, an RF Video employee who did commentary for ROH early on as â€"Ray Murrow.” We get a ten bell salute for Doug, and Gabe popped in on commentary to say a few words about him.

BECKY BAYLESS INTERVIEWS HOMICIDE- A great segment that accomplished a lot of different things.
As is the tradition, the first show of each ROH World Title reign (that the champion is at… looking at you, Dragon!) starts off with an in-ring interview of the new champ. Cide’s interview is quickly interrupted by Larry Sweeney. Sweeney craps all over Cide, calling him â€"the most disgraceful champion in ROH history.” While Sweeney has them distracted, Hero jumps Cide and Smokes and he and Sweeney beat them down until Rocky Romero returns to ROH to make the save. Romero then criticizes Homicide for not having called him in a year. Smokes and Cide both say that they don’t want to air their dirty laundry out here and they go to the back (unfortunately, this would never be followed up on- likely because of TNA pulling all of their talent after ROH announced its PPV deal). Rocky then calls out Davey Richards, and we get…

DAVEY RICHARDS vs. ROCKY ROMERO- 7.75/10
One of the best openers in ROH history. As you would expect from these two, we got a lot of stiff kicks, but after Rocky ducked a kick and Davey’s ankle hit the ringpost, Davey became a one-legged man in a kicking contest and Rocky worked over the leg until he got the win.

JIMMY RAVE PROMO- Good promo, but it felt like he was talking to someone else rather than to the camera because he was looking in a different direction.

JACK EVANS vs. EDDIE EDWARDS- 6.25/10
A good win for Jack in his return.

ADAM PEARCE & SHANE HAGADORN vs. PELLE PRIMEAU & DELIRIOUS- 5.5/10

BRISCOE BROTHERS PROMO- they predict a victory tonight in two straight falls. But we all know that never happens.

NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH: Colt Cabana, BJ Whitmer, & Daizee Haze vs. Brent Albright, Jimmy Jacobs, & Lacey- 6.5/10
Not quite as violent as I was expecting, but the match built very well. Daizee took some freakin’ sick bumps, and the people were chanting her name by the end of the match. Good showing from all six wrestlers. Lacey’s cocky pin and post-match promo pissed me off so much. In terms of sheer ability to get heat, I’d put Lacey up there as one of the best of all time. She's practically a female Jimmy Rave.

SAMOA JOE vs. NIGEL MCGUINNESS- 7.25/10
Nigel kicking out of the Muscle Buster was a huge moment. Between that and having him pass out in the Coquina Clutch rather than tap, they did everything they could to make Nigel look strong while still giving Joe the clean win. After the match Jimmy Rave attacks Samoa Joe and locks him in the heel hook, but Nigel makes the save. I’m really not sure why Rave went after Joe instead of his arch-rival, Nigel.

COLT CABANA PROMO- bad. The bruise on Daizee’s forehead is pretty bad, but that was because of Lacey, not Jimmy Jacobs. Cabana then rips into Jimmy Jacobs for hurting a woman. First of all, I’m pretty sure than Daizee touched Jimmy in this match before Jimmy touched her. Secondly, if hitting a woman is such a reprehensible act to Cabana 1) why didn’t he say anything after Jimmy speared Daizee a few shows ago, and 2) WHY DID HE INSTRUCT WHITMER TO PUT LACEY THROUGH A TABLE IN THIS VERY MATCH?! I hate hypocrisy from the babyfaces.

FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH: Jimmy Rave vs. Jason Blade vs. Shingo vs. Christopher Daniels (w/Allison Danger)- 6/10

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Homicide(c) (w/Julius Smokes) vs. Chris Hero (w/Larry Sweeney)- 6.5/10
Not much of a story here at all. Just wrestling moves. Very disappointing for Homicide’s first title defense.

JACK EVANS PROMO- okay

2 OUT OF 3 FALLS MATCH: The Briscoe Brothers vs. Austin Aries & Roderick Strong- 7.75/10
HOLY SH*T! They won in two straight! Props to Gabe for taking such a wrestling cliché (that 2 out of 3 falls matches always end 2-1) and making an angle out of the fact that matches weren’t ending that way.

JOE & HOMICIDE BACKSTAGE- Cide kept poking Joe in the shoulder which seemed like it was really annoying… and Joe snapping at him confirms that.

Overall, a very good show from ROH. Nothing that you absolutely need to see, either quality-wise or storyline-wise, but still a pretty good way to start off the year.
