TNA No Surrender 2011 (9/11/2011)- Orlando, FL
#1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH FOR THE X-DIVISION TITLE: Kid Kash vs. Jesse Sorensen- 5.25/10. Good character-work in the ring
TENAY INTERVIEWS HOGAN & ANGLE- Kurt found out about the main event at the 11th hour? See what happens when you spoil sh*t, Kurt? You look like an idiot on TV. Anyway, this segment was bad. It randomly teased dissension that no one gives a damn about.
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Bully Ray vs. James Storm- apparently these matches are still working under BFG Series point-scoring rules. I thought it was just a tournament? Hence all that talk about the possibility of Roode facing Storm last during that segment on Impact. So if James Storm wins by pinfall tonight, Bubba will still advance to the finals? If Bubba is up on Storm by nine points, then why doesn’t he just get counted out? Anyway, this did help to give the match a story, and it was cool seeing James Storm do things that we rarely get to see him do. Hated the finish, though. 5.5/10 It doesn’t get good heat on Bubba since Storm’s loss is entirely his own fault.
TNA KNOCKOUTS’ TITLE MATCH: Mickie James(c) vs. Winter (w/Angelina Love)- 5/10. Can we please go two minutes withut Angelina trying to interfere? And this was THE SECOND STRAIGHT PPV WHERE THEY HAVE DONE THIS FINISH! What was the point of Mickie winning the belt back if she was going to lose the belt IN THE SAME EXACT WAY?
GUNNER & BUBBA- they did this well, but no one honestly cares about this angle anymore.
TNA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Mexican America(c) (w/Sarita & Rosita) vs. Devon & The Pope- 5/10. Tenay completely fails to mention that THE HEELS CHEATED TO WIN and the finish looked weak with only one leg being held down on the outside. Also, you can only have so many dirty finishes or successful cheating attempts before it makes your referees look just plain incompetent.
ANDERSON PROMO- dull
MATT MORGAN vs. SAMOA JOE- 6.5/10. ONE FINISHER? That’s it? Just one finisher puts Joe The Monster down? BOO!
BOBBY ROODE PROMO- Great, but Bobby Roode’s catchphrase doesn’t work well as a babyface. James Storm was great on the mic here, too.
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Gunner vs. Bobby Roode- 6.75/10. So Bobby Roode works over Gunner’s arm all match, then gets the win with a head/neck submission? WTF?
AUSTIN ARIES PROMO- love it!
The voice-over guy should not be calling Kendrick “the Wizard of Odd.” He is supposed to be neutral, not poking fun at the babyfaces.
TNA X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH: Brian Kendrick(c) vs. Austin Aries- 7/10. What the hell was that finish? What is this semi-clean weird-ass crap? Just put Aries over 100% clean!
BULLY RAY PROMO- eh.
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES FINALS: Bully Ray vs. Bobby Roode- 4/10. An extremely disappointing lack of action, and Bobby Roode won with a normal move. Lame.
TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Kurt Angle(c) vs. Sting vs. Mr. Anderson- 6.5/10.
Why the hell did they need a dirty finish here? Sting can take a clean loss. He already has a super-hyped match on Impact, and we all knew that he wasn’t going to win because of that. It is Sting vs. Flair, to have Sting look weak going into the match would actually ADD some intrigue to this, since it would make us wonder whether or not Sting really might be on his last leg (kayfabe, of course- non-kayfabe, he hasn’t been able to go for almost two years now), and whtehr Flair might actually win and retire him.
Overall, not a good show from TNA, with only one match at 7/10 or higher, and nothing worth going out of your way to see.
Stupid Announcer Quotes:
1. Taz (about the 225lb weight limit in the X-Division)- “I think that’ll be, like, the exclamation point for the division. It’s like the X-Division is a brand within the brand of Impact Wrestling.” Umm… okay. Can anyone make an actual point out of this rambling?
