Bob-O's Random Ramblings 6/13/2012

I finally finished watching Monday Night's 3 hour Raw Supershow, and while a good show overall, it confirmed my fears of them going three hours in that I'm left feeling like it was nothing they couldn't have fit into two. Anyways, and I feel like I say this every time I write one of these... ahem... I haven't done one of these in a while, here's my random thoughts about the wrestling world today...
I saw an interesting article on PWTorch the other day. I thought it was interesting when I read it, and after finishing Raw I think it's quite relevant. Former WWE writer Chris DeJoseph (aka "Big Dick Johnson") talking about inconsistancies in WWE programing, here's a snippet:
So it doesn't matter that he was removed from power, see, we were supposed to forget about that. Just like we forgot about the Annonymous GM and that Zack Ryder is over. Triple H hasn't been on in a few weeks, I think we're supposed to forget about him too. Until it's time to build to Summerslam, his royal highness has a Dream Match to win. Vince has been in charge all along. NO! Listen. Vince has been in charge all along. Say it with me... VINCE HAS BEEN IN CHARGE ALL ALONG...
Haaa.... Vince.... anyone else notice that while he mocked Jr's Bell's Palsy the "Be A Star" Banner was framed on the wall in the background of the shot the entire time? "Remember that time I made you kiss my ass William Regal!? Hahahaha..."
So, how 'bout that crazy AJ, huh!? She could very well be the best thing WWE has going right now. I will absolutely lose my shit if she sides with Dragon at NWO and the break up and the flirting turns out to be a swerve all along. I'll lose it for two reasons. First, 'cause it'd put Bryan back on top and expand his (and AJ's) character greatly. Secondly, I have this theory that AJ's spot was originally penned for Eve's short lived Hoe-ski run. A Bryan/AJ swerve wouldn't confirm my theory or anything, but it would certainly add to it. They had Eve working with CENA for eff's sake.
Every time they said Vader was a "former main eventer on Raw", it just reminded me that he was never World Champion. Poor choice of words. I get that Casual Fan 2012 might not know Vader, but that's what the 30 second montage is for so we don't have to see his bad knees stumble up the ring steps.
VINCE HAS BEEN IN CHARGE ALL ALONG...
Ziggles gets the nod after Alberto conked his noggin. That's a bold move, considering we've seen Sheamus beat him clean two weeks in a row. Blame Swagger all you want for those losses, I'd be more invested if Swagger had won that Four Way. Swagger matches up better size wise, it's a match up I don't think we've seen in a while, and all eyes would be on Ziggler to see how he'd react to Swagger getting a title shot.
I've been telling people that Gunner is Sick Boy from WCW. I don't know if it's funnier that people believe me or that they pretend that that's interesting to them.
I've been enjoying the Ryback squashes, I'm not sure where they're going to go, but I like to see guys I can relate to getting destroyed. I wonder where he goes from here. He's a little out of place in today's WWE, a little too over the top for somebody already established to mesh with. I think they need to start building to something with him. Establish somebody we can't wait to see him get his hands on. A good verbal heel. Otunga? Miz? An exiting Jericho?
Speaking of fresh faces, Damien Sandow blows my mind. He's like Curt Henning and Lanny Poffo rolled into one. He is late 80's / early 90's nostalgia - and it works! I heard a rumor that Vince told writers to "stop at nothing" to get an anonymous Smackdown worker over, and I can't help but think he was talking about Sandow.
As much as I like Sandow, I cannot get enough Antonio Cesaro. I never really watched his indy stuff, this is my first exposure to the man. He appeals to me as a heel that can really get some foreigner heat. I'm loving him based on potential, as I've only seen him squash jobbers and bully Teddy Long.
Makes me wonder where they're going to find time to squeeze in Amrose and Rollins... not in that extra hour of Raw if Monday was a sign of things to come...
Since I'm being honest, I also like to tell people that Bobby Roode is the result of a teen pregnancy fathered by Paul Diamond (aka Max Moon). I'm sorry.
Where in the hell is Wade Barrett!? They could be using him in a non-wrestling role right now. It might actually brighten his star. I remember how much I hated Brett Hart when he was in that wheel chair...
I think I covered all the bases. Maybe I'll try to squeeze in Impact this week and do another one of these next week that's not so WWE-heavy. Maybe Joey Ryan will show up! Maybe Hogan will screen his sex tape! Stay tuned! VINCE WAS IN CHARGE ALL ALONG!!!!!
Thanks for reading! I'll see you in the threads!

In general, though, did Vince care about storyline consistency? No, says DeJoseph.
"It would always be brought up. Logic would always be brought up, but sometimes it'd just be thrown right out the window. He'd sometimes say he couldn't even remember what happened three weeks ago, so how is the audience going to remember it? I think sometimes that was his thought…"
It's a good read if you've got a minute: ArticleThe attitude is Vince doesn't think it's ultimately important to business or the bottom line. "It's a big promotional thing that's going to get eyeballs on this TV show and I think that's what he thinks [matters]," DeJoseph says.
Does it chip away at fans investing in the product? "Yeah, it sucks. [Fans have to be thinking,] 'Why should I invest my time and everything into this storyline when they're just going to sh-- on it without explanation.' I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they will on Monday. I don't know what they're going to do on Monday."
DeJoseph says the writing team cares even when Vince doesn't. "At least when I was there, and I'm sure it's still the same way, we would try to present every logical thing. We'd say we need to explain that, and whether it was ignored or we were told 'No, we f---in' don't,' that's the way it was."
So it doesn't matter that he was removed from power, see, we were supposed to forget about that. Just like we forgot about the Annonymous GM and that Zack Ryder is over.
