WWF In Your House 5: Season’s Beatings (12/17/1995)- Hershey, PA

RAZOR RAMON & MARTY JANNETTY vs. 1-2-3 KID & SYCHO SID (w/Ted Dibiase)- 5.5/10.
I really didn’t like the finish. It felt like they had Sid lose to a non-finisher just so Kid could retain his heat. I don’t see why they couldn’t have had Sid lose to a finisher and have Dibiase pull kid out of the ring to save him from the Razor’s Edge.

HOG PEN MATCH WITH HILLBILLY JIM AS SPECIAL GUEST REREREE: Henry O. Godwinn vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley- 7.5/10.
If you have to do a silly gimmick match, you might as well use the gimmick as well as you can. Great job here by both guys. I’m eh on the aftermath.

STUFF WITH JEFF JARRETT & JERRY LAWLER- silly, but it set up for the aftermath of the next match.

AHMED JOHNSON vs. BUDDY LANDELL (w/Dean Douglas)- Good squash, and good aftermath.

DIESEL vs. OWEN HART (w/Jim Cornette)- 4.75/10

SEGMENT WITH SAVIO VEGA, TED DIBIASE, & SANTA CLAUS- Fun, with a great twist, and gets bonus points from me for being done in a very kid-friendly way. If you are not a kid, though, Vince’s commentary definitely falls into the realm of “so bad it’s good” for its corniness. “That’s not the real Santa Claus! Santa would never sell out!”

CASKET MATCH: The Undertaker vs. King Mabel (w/Sir Mo)- 4/10.
Really not exciting at all. Taker finally getting the urn (or what was left of it, anyway) back after having it stolen at the beginning of the year was nice.

WWF TITLE MATCH: Bret Hart(c) vs. The British Bulldog (w/Jim Cornette & Diana Hart Smith)- 9/10.
AMAZING main event. The build going into this match was that Bret had never beaten Davey Boy, and they told that story well. There were a few references to their match at Summer Slam 92, and Davey Boy dominated most of the match. Every time that Bret came back, Davey Boy just cut him off again. Absolutely amazing.

SEGMENT WITH UNDERTAKER, PAUL BEARER, & DIESEL- Good.


Overall, a pretty good show from WWF. The main event is definitely worth going out of your way to see, but nothing else here is really worth it. This show is not must-see, but you won’t be disappointed if you do see it.

This was a really underrated show in my opinion. One of the best shows from '95, and the main event is so overlooked. I think if it weren't for the crowd during SummerSlam '92, this match was better. Davey was so drugged up and it showed that Bret was carrying the whole match at SummerSlam, but this match was just epic.

"Bret has never beaten Davey Boy before" is a good angle for the match on its own, but it is brought up to that next level by Davey Boy having a very high-profile, well-remembered win over Bret under his belt. The nearfalls on the O'Connell Roll wouldn't have been nearly as awesome if Davey hadn't beaten Bret with a flash-pin before.

I always thought it was the O'Conner roll; after Pat O'Conner....

Me, too, but then I heard Mean Gene admit a shoot interview that he completely made the name up, and (if I remember correctly) he didn't say O'Connor because he didn't want people to give Pat credit for inventing the move when it was really someone else.
