Which Undertaker gimmick was in your opinion the best?

I feel like I've made this before but I can't find it, so I made it again.

He's been awesome throughout all his gimmicks but Lord of Darkness was his best for me, mostly for nostalgia reasons. He had some epic matches & feuds during that point. First HIAC with HBK, his first feud with Kane.

The Pheonom. It allowed him to use a great mix of everything.

I'm a sucker for Ministry of Darkness.

Lord Of Darkness. That was the gimmick that got me hooked on wrestling!

This... Everything about it for me was just awesome.

Grrr... this list irritates me. "Big Evil" was just a heel version of the American Badass, and the Ministry Taker was just a stable-leading heel version of the Lord of Darkness.

But there was something different about them, besides their affiliation. Appearance, even. And Ministry Undi was totally different from the Lord of Darkness. He never hypnotized, kidnapped, crucified or attempted to sacrifice people then.

Appearance usually changes with a turn. I will give you that the Ministry one was different, but Big Evil is just a heel version of the American Badass (and during the face part of "Big Evil," he was almost no different). Different entrance music and a different appearance does not make it a different gimmick if the character is still inherently the same.

This.

Ministry and Lord Of Darkness 'Taker are completely different. However I've never understood why when I've referred to ABA 'Taker during a time when he was Big Evil, or vice versa, people HAVE to correct me, because they are the same character through and through!

If you think about it, the Big Evil gimmick was a bit different than the American Badass gimmick. Not just was he more of a heel, he was a complete and total bully. He shaved his head and dyed his hair black, and it's also when he started using strikes more and more often (he always did but it was here when it became a main component of his arsenal). Does that make it a different gimmick? Not totally. I would agree it's an extension of the American Badass gimmick, but I think it's different enough to give it a mention.

What are the differences between his various supernatural gimmicks?

It's hard to beat the original. In that first era, the Undertaker barely talked, making him seem somehow even more mysterious and menacing (this is the way Hulk Hogan and Goldberg got so much attention just before their careers took off as well). Paul Bearer did most of the talking and it worked. In fact at the time I found it hard to imagine the Undertaker without Paul Bearer. He used to perform the Tombstone pile driver on his opponent, then on the referee, then on anybody else who objected to it. Good times.
