15 years ago; The Giant wins the WCW World Heavyweight Title

Post by womenwrestlerfan » Apr 22nd, '11, 18:59

Hey guys,

Here's a WCW Moment from 15 years ago:

The Giant wins the WCW World Heavyweight Championship by def. Ric Flair

Here's what happend:

Ric Flair and The Giant met for the very 1st time on March 25, 1996 on WCW Monday Nitro on TNT

However, The Giant didn't win the title that night b/c of outside interference and as a result, the referee declared the match a No-Contest

The following week on NITRO, The Giant challenged STING to a fight and Ric Flair def. Lex Luger to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

2 weeks later on NITRO, The Giant and Ric Flair teamed up once again against STING and Lex Luger for the WCW World Tag Team Championship, STING was about to go for a win, but b/c Woman threw Hot Coffee @ The Stinger, the match was declared a No-Contest and The Giant took out both Luger and The Stinger w/the chokeslam and then, he tried confronting Ric Flair, but Jimmy Hart restrained him

The following week on NITRO, The Giant and Ric Flair teamed up once more against STING and Lex Luger, this time, it was all titles on the line

The WCW World Heavyweight Championship
The WCW World Tag Team Championship
The WCW World Television Championship

Here were the rules:

If STING or Lex Luger pins Ric Flair, then Flair will lose the WCW World Heavyweight Champion and STING and Luger keep their titles

If The Giant or Flair pins The Stinger, then The Giant and Flair wins the WCW World Tag Team Championship, but Flair keeps his World Title and Luger keeps his TV Belt

If The Giant or Ric Flair pins Lex Luger, then Luger loses his TV Belt and he and STING lose their World Tag Team Championship

Now, if Luger pins Flair, then he walks out with 3 Belts and STING will still have the WCW World Tag Team Championship or if Flair pins Luger, then Flair walks out with 3 Belts and The Giant will have the WCW World Tag Team Championship

If STING pins Ric Flair, then STING and Luger walkout with all of the Gold

STING w/the Heavyweight & Tag Team Belts and Luger w/the TV and Tag Team Belts

If The Giant pins Luger, then The Giant and Flair walkout with all of the Gold

Flair w/the Heavyweight & Tag Team Belts and The Giant w/the TV and Tag Team Belts

However, if The Giant gets pinned, then no titles will change hands

On that night, Flair was about to throw coffee on Luger and STING, but instead, it caught The Giant and the match has once again, ended in a No Contest, but then, The Giant challenged Ric Flair for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

and so, the stage was set

and on April 29, 1996 on NITRO, The Giant stepped into the ring against The Nature Boy and just when Flair was about to put away the Giant with the Figure 4 Leglock, The Giant rosed up and chokeslammed Flair and got the pin, the victory and he became the WCW World Heavyweight Champion @ the age of 24

and as for Ric Flair, Woman and Miss Elizabeth checked on Flair

Ric Flair & The Giant would not compete against each other again, until 10 years later on ECW on Sci-Fi for the ECW World Heavyweight Championship

and now, 15 years later, The Giant is now in the WWE on SD! as The Big Show and as for Ric Flair, he is now in Rival Company TNA Wrestling and he lost a Lethal Lockdown Match to Fortune

and as for the others, Arn Anderson is still in the WWE as a Road Agent as as a Sr. Producer for Monday Night RAW

STING is still in TNA Wrestling as the TNA World Heavyweight Champion and as for Lex Luger, he is retired from the ring and he is a writer for a Christian Magazine, but he still makes appearances in wrestling events.

and that's your look @ a moment from 15 years ago this month:

I remember seeing that match. I didn't like Pual when he was the Giant because he would over sell everything.
