wXw We Love Wrestling 18 (7/23/2021)- Oberhausen, Germany

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS BABY ALLISON & VINCENT HEISENBERG- great
Heisenberg wants Feyyaz and that’s all he cares about. He’s great at coming across as liable to snap at any moment.

VINCENT HEISENBERG vs. ENDER KARA- good squash
They somehow managed to have Kara get totally squashed and have Heisenberg even play with him a bit by letting him go when he had him up for his finisher without making Kara seem like a total chump. He just seemed like a guy who simply outclassed by Heisenberg, but if you put him in there against someone else, he might have a shot.

ANDY JACKSON’S POST-MATCH INTERVIEW WITH VINCENT HEISENBERG IS INTERRUPTED BY AVALANCHE- mostly great
Heisenberg wants to know if Baby Allison and Maggot have found Feyyaz yet. He went on a deranged rant about how he needed to make Feyyaz pay for causing him to become “disfigured.”
At this point Avalanche- Heisenberg’s trainer and the man currently training Feyyaz- showed up and tried to make peace. He told Vincent that he understood what he was going through, but warned him that he could not put his hands on Feyyaz because is currently just wXw staff and not a wrestler because he hasn’t reached that point in his training yet.
Heisenberg heard all of this, and then repeated to Avalanche what he told the world last week: He will destroy everyone put in front of him until management has no choice but to give him a match against Feyyaz. Avalanche was great here. Heisenberg was mostly good, but the crazy semi-laughing/semi-crying sound he was making started to feel forced because he did it so often.

ROTT & FLOTT INTERVIEW- fine
Michael Schenkenberg complains about being booked in a singles match because he’s a tag team wrestler.

LEVANIEL PROMO- decent

LEVANIEL vs. MICHAEL SCHENKENBERG (w/Nikita Charisma)- 4.75/10
A distraction by Charisma gets Schenkenberg the win.

LEVANIEL PROMO- bad
He came across way too much like he was whining, and after a lot of meandering, he finally got around to challenging Nikita Charisma to a match.

EARLIER TODAY, ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS DELIA- not very good
She’s far too happy-go-lucky and doesn’t sound like she has any confidence. Maybe talking in her native French would be better.

DAN INTERVIEWS IVA KOLASKY- passable
Her English is not good, but she has the confidence that someone who is supposed to be a professional fighter needs.

IVA KOLASKY vs. DELIA- 3/10
Delia keeps up her winning ways with her moonsault.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS TEAM wXw WRESTLING ACADEMY- good
Anil got to put himself over for having a good rookie year, and then they talked up their tag team title defense against the Arrows of Hungary next week at Shortcut to the Top 2021. These two have what feels like a real camaraderie between them.

AXEL TISCHER IS RETURNING SOON- yay!

FAST TIME MOODO vs. DENNIS “CASH” DULLNIG- 7/10
Great stuff here. Dullnig can actually go. They did a great job of raping up the intensity to their big spill over the floor, and when Moodo decided that he would rather keep pounding on Dennis than try to get back in the ring before the count-out, it felt completely natural. They kept fighting after the double count-out, and it took the referee quite a while to break things up.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS FAST TIME MOODO- GREAT!
Moodo explains his anger by saying that he is tired of people questioning him. Dennis questioning his insistence on not teaming with anyone while Stephanie Maze is injured is the thing that set this off, but it’s clear that there is some underlying issue here. This was by far the most emotion I’ve ever seen from Moodo. He did an excellent job here.

ARROWS OF HUNGARY PROMO- EXCELLENT!
This was essentially their condensed life story, but it did an AMAZING job of showing us how much winning the wXw World Tag Team Titles would mean to them.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEW BOBBY GUNNS- good
Bobby thinks it’s a foregone conclusion that he’ll win his match tonight and wind up with the #30 spot in Shortcut to the Top. After all, he just beat Michael Knight last month at Fans Appreciation Night 2021: Night 1.

DAN INTERVIEWS MICHAEL KNIGHT- fine
He says that Bobby’s arrogance will be his downfall. Dan was very annoying.

WINNER ENTERS SHORTCUT TO THE TOP AT #30; LOSER ENTERS AT #1: Bobby Gunns vs. Michael Knight- 6.75/10
Knight wins, countering the move that beat him last time.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS MICHAEL KNIGHT- fine babyface stuff, politely and sincerely putting over his opponent (which thus makes his own win feel even bigger)

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE wXw UNIFIED WORLD WRESTLING TITLE MATCH AT SHORTCUT TO THE TOP 2021- It will be Marius Al-Ani defending against Tristan Archer in a match where you can only win by submission and you also get only three rope-breaks. The stipulations make sense based on their previous matches, but I would have preferred for Archer to get another win over a semi-notable opponent earlier on this show before giving him another title shot.

TRISTAN ARCHER PROMO- very good
Archer did a good job building the bridge for the limited rope-breaks part of the stipulation. It was one of those things where you could see why it made sense without this explanation, but having the wrestlers explain the connection to us in an organic way (like Archer here explaining to us why he feels that these stipulations give him a better chance of proving his superiority as a pure wrestler) makes it feel like something the promotion is doing in order to determine who is truly the better wrestler, as opposed to something the booker is doing to show us all his or her artistic abilities.
Archer also vowed not to tap out, saying that Marius would have t kill him in order to beat him.

MARIUS AL-ANI PROMO- F*CKING AMAZING!
THIS IS HOW A HEEL WORLD CHAMPION CUTS A PROMO!

DAN INTERVIEWS MAGGOT, BABY ALLISON, & VINCENT HEISENBERG- interesting
Maggot is happy to beat on his former best friend and old tag team partner. Not because he’s angry at him or anything, but he thinks the two of them fighting will be a fun time and he’s confident that he’ll win. He didn’t mention the Shotgun Title at all. Baby Allison told him that he needed to focus on the Shotgun Title because they “could use the cash.”

wXw SHOTGUN TITLE MATCH: Prince Ahura(c) vs. Maggot (w/Baby Allison & Vincent Heisenberg)- 6.75/10
They were all chummy and danced to Ahua’s music and had fun together before the match. They proceeded to have a very good, competitive match that was ruined by an idiotic finish. Despite having no qualms about kicking his friend for the previous 14:30, Ahura suddenly decides that he can’t hit his big kick, and instead goes to finish him with a crossbody instead. Said crossbody got countered into a cutter. Maggot went for a cover, but time expired at two. Guys catching feelings for the convenience of the plot always annoys me.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- fine
Maggot tried to snatch the title belt because he thought he had won. He eventually left, and Prince Ahura cut a meh promo in his post-match interview. Norman Harras came out and was surprised to learn that there won’t be a title shot lottery drawing this week because the title won’t be defending next week at Shortcut to the Top 2021. Norman was upset about this.

This was a good episode of We Love Wrestling. They certainly seem to have decided to give the matches more time, and it has really helped the show. Shortcut to the Top is next, so we’ll probably see some big returns. It should be quite exciting, especially with a field that feels so wide open.
