This seems like a better argument. Remember when Taz and Bam Bam Bigelow fell through the ring?

Was this legit, as in it was an accident, or was it a work?

Putting it on in the semi-main rather than the main event was absolute genius on Heyman's part, though.

But how would they gimmick the ring to break like that and keep it protected for the entire show beforehand?

They use trap doors. After a spot like this, you'll often hear talent complaining that they were tripping over the trap door all night. I believe this to be one of those shows...
