RODERICK STRONG PROMO- fine
Apparently TVD had Roddy’s wife and son’s faces on his trunks when he returned. That explains why he did the hip swivel and Rude Awakening. This fact completely changes my outlook on this feud, as it makes Dream REALLY creepy.
Roddy demanded that TVD come out and apologize to him. Instead he got Bronson Reed, who is angry that Roddy kneed him in the face during Undisputed Era’s backstage rampage. I guess Regal is okay with this because a referee scurried into the ring (almost bumping into Roddy as Roddy was squaring up to prepare for Reed) and called for the bell, kicking off…
RODERICK STRONG vs. BRONSON REED- 6.5/10
This was fine for the time it got. TVD’s entrance effect happened but Roddy overcome the distraction caused by this change of lighting and got the win.
THE VELVETEEN DREAM SHOWS UP ON THE TITANTRON- didn’t like it.
For the first time, we got actually details of how TVD was injured. It turns out that Undisputed Era THREW HIM OFF THE TOP OF A TRUCK. No wonder he’s so f*cking pissed. But that just begs the question of why he’s only going after Roddy. Or does he have trunks with everyone else’s significant other on them, too, that he’s just waiting to pull out. Speaking of pulling things out, I think I heard somewhere that Adam Cole’s girlfriend is a dentist.
Anyway, up until that point this was fine. Then TVD showed a picture of Roderick’s family and told him “if something happened to you… someone, somewhere, would fulfill all of Marina’s dreams.” Our babyface just said “I’m going to cripple you and then f*ck your wife.”
BROSERWEIGHTS VIDEO PACKAGE- terrible
They’re goofballs now, also driving without a license and on the wrong side of the road is funny, LOL! What a great message for the children.
CATHY KELLEY INTERVIEWS ANGEL GARZA- good
Garza reiterated that he lost his title without being pinned or made to submit. Lio Rush showed up and told him that he is not the same Lio Rush Garza took the Cruiserweight Title from back in December. Lio was very good here, and Garza was fine.
CANDICE LERAE vs. DAKOTA KAI- 5.25/10
Fine babyface vs. heel stuff. Kai won with a roll-up. Candice went after her after the match but got hit with the ring bell, making her look like an idiot. Tegan Nox came out to make the save and they had a pull-apart. A fine go-home segment.
JOHNNY GARGANO vs. CAMERON GRIMES- 6.75/10
They showed us footage of an altercation between these two at a house show on Sunday, which is why we’re having this match. They had a very good match which Gargano won clean, but not good enough to feel like it really did anything for Grimes by hanging in there with Gargano.
ADAM COLE PROMO- great
MORE TERRIBLE BROSERWEIGHTS STUFF- They’re on a swan-shaped paddleboat with the trophy. Riddle is talking about the trophy as if it’s a third member of their team. This is horrible.
ROBERT STONE & CHELSEA GREEN PROMO- fine… or maybe bad? I’m not sure if the idea is that they’re supposed to be subtle parodies of wrestling characters or not.
NXT CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE #1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH: Angel Garza vs Lio Rush- 7/10
Great action with some nice follow-ups from their previous match. Rush won via small package. Devlin came out and cut a promo on him afterwards.
NORTH AMERICAN TITLE MATCH VIDEO PACKAGE- GREAT!
Not only was this excellent, but using Mark Henry t do the talking made this feel unique, gave it a little more credibility, and also made sense, as the theme was about redefining big-men.
SANTANA GARRETT vs. BIANCA BELAIR- squash
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- good
Bianca Belair cut a promo excoriating Charlotte for ignoring her and saying that she would be the one to emerge from TakeOver: Portland with the NXT Women’s Title and defend it against Charlotte at WrestleMania. Rhea Ripley came out and fired back verbally, so Bianca fired back physically. They had a little brawl which Bianca won, which was something Bianca needed very badly at this point.
MORE BROSERWEIGHT STUPIDITY- stupid
They stole Hunter’s plane or something.
TOMMASO CIAMPA PROMO- fine
ADAM COLE vs. KUSHIDA- 7.75/10
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- meh
Ciampa comes out to have the big go-home nose-to-nose with Cole. I didn’t buy that these two would be this close together without Cole taking a cheap shot at Ciampa.
