Kiel297's WWE Superstar Of The Month: April 2011
Posted: Apr 5th, '11, 19:08
So, considering I seem to have an unhealthy obsession with a different WWE Superstar each month, I've decided that I'm gonna actually make something come out of it, by writing a blog about why I think that WWE Superstar is great. It doesn't necessarily have to be someone who has performed well over the preceding month, nor does it have to be about that superstar's recent performances at all. It might become like that in future, if I decide to keep doing these, it depends on whether people read/like this blog or not. Please bear in mind that this is my first one, so it might not be the best...
My SOTM this month is, however, chosen due to the fact that I've been very impressed with his performance as of late. His in-ring ability is amazing, his mic skills are awesome, and he works his gimmick so damn well! My Superstar Of The Month for April 2011 pretty much has wrestling in his blood. He follows his father and his brother and continues the legacy his family name. He is none other than Cody Rhodes.
Ever since Cody Rhodes was give his 'Dashing' gimmick, I've been impressed with him. The little male grooming skits every week were entertaining, as were his promos. He manages to portray his character in a way that doesn't quite allow you to see past the fact that it's a character; sometimes I watch him and feel like I am watching the only Cody Rhodes there is because he doesn't let the act drop in the slightest.
As well as his acting, I don't think I can fault his in-ring work at all either. He is a hard worker, and a great worker, and always throws himself into his in-ring performances. His temper tantrums during his matches, when his opponent would hit him in the face, were amazingly done in every way. The way he screamed at Justin Roberts to hold his jacket up so he could look at the mirror on the back was amazing!
Recently, however, he's been involved in a storyline in which his good looks were robbed from him after being hit the in face by Rey Mysterio's knee brace. This led to an darker side of Cody Rhodes. Suddenly he came out wearing a suit and a protective face mask, he was distraught at the fact that his dashing good looks had been ruined, and from the moment he was on camera until the moment he was gone, I believed that this was a man who had the thing he cared about most ripped from him. He had everything. The dark stares, the quivering lip, the slow, stammered speech, and the ruthless aggression in his matches to go with it.
This all led up to my favourite of all his matches, by far. Wrestlemania 27, Rey Mysterio vs Cody Rhodes. This match was absolutely perfect! It was well-paced, it told the story it needed to perfectly, and not even WWE's current commentary arrangement could bring it down! Hell, if I'm referring to a match featuring Rey Mysterio as great, then you gotta know that the other guy has something special about him!
Cody Rhodes has it all. He has the looks, he can talk, and he can back it up in the ring. He proved all of that in the last month, and out of it he got his Wrestlemania moment in a match that was honestly my favourite of the night! Cody Rhodes is going to be another Miz success story. I predict that within a year, he will have found his way to the main even scene, and he will be stealing shows all year round!
