The Miami Herald featured a piece today on Orlando bidding on Wrestlemania and being one of the front-runners for next year's Wrestlemania 33....and being in the running for Wrestlemania 34 in 2018 as well.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer was interviewed and noted he flew to Stamford, CT and gave WWE officials a bid in 2008 (the same year Orlando hosted Wrestlemania 24) for the "Theme Park Capital of the World" to host Wrestlemania in both 2017 and 2018.

“We’re in a competition right now, and we understand it’s down to a handful of cities for 2017,” Dyer said.

Dyer also said that the city spent money upgrading the Citrus Bowl in order to put themselves into a better position when it comes to Wrestlemania bids, noting they now have 14 months of experience in running the newer facility. WWE put considerable effort and money into masking the older venue when Mania was held there in 2008.

Since Wrestlemania was held in Orlando, WWE has placed strengthened their roots there, opening the WWE Performance Center right outside the city in Winter Park as well as building a partnership with Full Sail University, which regularly hosts WWE NXT tapings and was the home of the most recent season of "Tough Enough." There has been a lot of talk over the years of WWE opening a permanent, physical WWE Hall of Fame location in Orlando as well, with much of the speculation being that it would land at Universal Citiwalk as part of the company's corporate relationship with NBC Universal.
