During an appearance on Chris Jericho's "Talk is Jericho" podcast, AJ Styles revealed that he met Triple H for the first time in person at the Royal Rumble PPV in Orlando a few weeks ago and that they had only spoken over the phone discussing non-WWE related things.
Styles also revealed he only had a brief discussion with Vince McMahon since signing with WWE to discuss his character. He said Vince described his character as a "pitbull" that has to fight for everything he gets and it was similar to what he had in mind as well.

You sign the hottest free agent in professional wrestling without having you as the boss or Triple H in head of talent role really sit down and thrash out a long term idea?
I'm shaking my head right now.

It's WWE. They don't do "long term" plans for anyone.

Something a bit more substantial than "I want you to be a pitbull"
You should at least take some time and say "you're AJ Styles, go out and be AJ Styles, and depending on what the fans like and want, that's where we'll go"
Luck has it we're getting the respect feud between AJ & Jericho we all wanted. My hope is that they trade indecisive victories, begrudging respect and 1 or 2 great 10-15 minute matches and have a real big blow out at Wrestlemania which will really set AJ up going forward.

I'd say this Jericho thing will be his next heel turn; on the contrary.

I'm sensing this, too. I think Jericho really wants to be able to be a heel and has finally found someone he knows the fans won't cheer for him if he turns on.

I'm not defending them. I'm just saying I'm not shocked because not planning in advance is standard operating procedure for WWE.

I get that. I wasn't overly shocked. It's just disappointment really. I get that things change quickly, but Vince used to have the next years Wrestlemania card provisionally on his office wall and just tweaked the necessary, these days it just feels like they have no idea what they're doing 30 days in advance.
On the other point, a Jericho heel turn here would be good and probably the perfect opponent to execute it, because it gives AJ the extra overness when he goes over in the fued as a face (because Jericho will undoubtedly put him over). I think WWE could turn AJ, but at least for the next 6 months, they need to build his profile and maybe give him an IC or US title run as a face so it really pisses the fans off when he turns.

Yes. I especially see it as Jericho being classic "Sore loser Jericho" with the coming heel turn. I think it's inevitable. Attacks him after losin' , complains,.

And as we all know, "Sore Loser Jericho" is the best Jericho there is.

He invented that too.
