I put this here because I don't have a verifiable "news" source for this yet, but apparently at tonight's NWA Hollywood tapings Colt Cabana has beaten Adam Pearce to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. I heard about this from IWantWrestling.com, who also accompanied their blurb with this video:

Not much.. Since you never hear about NWA world champs anymore (from this decade atleast.)

Since TNA broke away, the only NWA world champs there've been are Adam Pearce (I think about three times), Brent Albright (who beat Pearce to end Pearce's first reign), Blue Demon Jr. (who beat Pearce to end Pearce's second reign), and now Cabana. I'm not a huge Blue Demon Jr. fan but those other three guys are pretty solid.

Well, from 2002 til TNA broke away in 2007 we did; and as I mentioned above, there hasn't been much title exchanges in the past four years so there isn't much to report anyhow. You never hear about the NWA champs when the titles aren't being defended on tv (see 93 til 2002)

We may not hear so much about the NWA belt these days... but it's still a pretty prestigious belt.

The NWA WORLD championship is the only "world" tile actually defended around the world against truly international competition... when is the last time the TNA World title or either of the WWE "world" titles were defended against a wrestler of another nationality in his native land (& not part of the company's lineup)

Lol! A company like TNA is never gonna have their belt lost to another international company, but thats besides the point... in kayfabe terms it IS defended globally against global stars outside their own company... it answered the point you raised.

It's "jeopardy" and its "likelihood" of passing to another company isn't a factor here.

WWE and TNA's belts are defended outside of the US (or if you are being picky, the US and Canada) every time that they do an overseas tour. The same with indy belts.
And I hardly think it is fair to blame an indy company for this, because traveling abroad requires money, so doing so is rarely in that company's best interests (on a side note, I think one place where it has worked remarkably well is ROH in the UK, which is a lot like WWE in the UK in the early 90's. I can't figure out why they haven't been back in four years). Furthermore, indies have a lot less exposure than WWE and TNA, so going to a totally new market is risky enough... but going somewhere you don't speak the local language almost triples the risk because the people won't be able to understand the angles (CZW was pretty ballsy in going to Germany recently... and they did defend their belt there).

Indy wrestlers also don't have a lot of money, so traveling overseas for likely not much money isn't feasible for them. And most companies (understandably) do not let their champion lose outside of the company (the blow-off between Danielson & Morishima had to be put on hold for an entire year because Morishima won the GHC World Title), so in many cases, foreign companies might not want to book them, unless they are a huge name like Hero, Danielson, or Aries.
