BRM Reviews the 9/2/2015 Impact (invasion fail)

OPENING SEGMENT- bad
Why are the GFW guys allowed back in the building at all? Why didn’t Dixie just fire Jeff and tell his guys not to show up again? That should have been the first question addressed on this show. And before anyone says “well Jeff said he still has ownership stake in TNA” let me remind you that on his first night back when they started this angle LESS THAN THREE MONTHS AGO they acknowledged that he had to leave before because Sting had fired him. And why is it that Jeff’s ownership is important if we’ve seen other owners somehow lose their ownership with no explanation over the years, including MVP JUST LAST YEAR.
Other than that one (major) logical hiccup, I liked what they did here. They established the Jarretts’ motivations and heeled on the fans as well. I also liked how they gave Mordetzky direct credit for taking out Bully and Galloway. It sets him up as being a bit more than just a member of the pack like he would have been if it was a gang beating.
Well… I liked it until Jeff Jarrett declared that “tonight starts a corporate hostile takeover.” How is it a corporate hostile takeover in any way if Dixie isn’t selling her control of TNA? And if Jeff is just speaking symbolically… IT DIDN’T START TONIGHT!
And how, exactly, are they planning on taking over TNA?

Also, it too me a long time to recognize him, but when I did, I totally popped for Scott D’Amore.

CHRIS MORDETZKY vs. BOBBY LASHLEY- 6/10
So the first match in this big interpromotional war… has no one else at ringside, making it look and feel like every other match you’ve ever seen.
I actually liked what they did here, but the reason I’m rating this as a match rather than a segment was because I really enjoyed it for what it was.
Okay… the more I watch, the more I am convinced that no one in TNA has any idea what a corporate hostile takeover is, and the more they use the term, the dumber they sound.

SCHMOZ AT THE END- so where are the other half of the GFW guys? And why is no one aside from the Wolves coming out to help Lashley and defend TNA?

CASH-IN SEGMENT- so apparently the Jarretts have Magnus’ Feast or Fired Briefcase. Since when can you just GIVE the briefcase away? I also thought this would have worked a lot better if Magnus had actually been seen on TV as part of GFW. Even if he had just showed up here with the briefcase, it would have been better.
Then EARL HEBNER decides that he will support TNA by NOT DOING HIS JOB and not accepting the cash-in. Yes, EARL HEBNER is standing up for TNA… and meanwhile Bobby Roode and Drew Galloway and Rockstar Spud and Ethan Carter III and Matt Hardy and Tigre Uno and Ken Anderson and everyone else who loves TNA so much is just sitting on their hands in the back. The only way they can save this is if they reveal that the other half of the GFW roster is holding them all at gunpoint. So Jarrett beats up Earl and then D’Amore and Tapa and Royal Red force Brian Stiffler to make the count.

TNA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Wolves(c) vs. Trevor Lee & Brian Myers (w/the GFW roster)- No rating. Fine segment.
The Wolves actually get to kick out and make a comeback and I will admit that I started to really hope that the Wolves would make them tap when they had those submissions locked in so I’ll give them credit for the way they put the match together. A fine segment.

BOBBY ROODE PROMO- he isn’t helping TNA because apparently he’s a heel again this week. He feels disrespected by everyone so he doesn’t care about the interpromotional war. He just wants to win the KOTM title from PJ Black.

JEREMY BORASH INTERVIEWS EC III- This was an awesome promo… except that WE’RE IN THE MIDDLE OF A F*CKING INVASION HERE! And ETHAN WAS THE FIRST GUY TO SPEAK UP AGAINST GFW! This should be his moment of telling everyone “I was right!” His family’s company is being invaded… and all of a sudden he doesn’t give a sh*t?!
They needed to do one of two things on this show:
1) Have Matt and Ethan agree to set aside their differences and fight for TNA
Or
2) Have Ethan cut a promo saying “I warned you all but you didn’t listen to me, so I’m not going to help you clean up your mess. If GFW wins this war, they’ll just want me to sign with them because “m so good, so I don’t care if TNA gets taken over and all of you lose your jobs.”
Instead they did nothing.

BOBBY ROODE PROMO- so remember how he just said he didn’t care about this TNA vs. GFW stuff? Well now he is cutting a promo talking about being a “TNA original” and “this is our house” and stuff like that.

TNA KING OF THE MOUNTAIN TITLE MATCH: PJ Black(c) vs. Bobby Roode- 6.75/10
Pope tells us that holding a title gives you power. They’ve been doing this angle for thirteen years now and we’ve yet to see any evidence of it.
Roode is about to win when Sonja Dutt runs out to cause a distraction. Galloway came out to take care of Sonjay, so I applaud them for having someone actually learn something… but I have to ask why they sent a million guys out to save Mordetzky from losing, but only sent one guy out to save PJ Black in a freakin’ title match?!
So Roode wins the title back. Wow. So much for GFW gaining all of this power. It’s the third match, and they’ve already lost a title.
Oh. Here come the rest of the GFW guys. I guess they can only show up when the plot demands it.

JEFF JARRETT & DIXIE CARTER PROMO SEGMENT- They have some good back and forth. Then Jeff declared (for about the 87th time) that he was going to take over TNA and Dixie asked “do you think I’m going to stand by and let you do that?” and then I shouted “WELL THEN WHAT THE F*CK HAVE YOU BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST HOUR?!”
Then Dixie said that Jeff had “left TNA” (which goes against kayfabe- as Jeff said in his first promo back, Sting fired him).
And here it comes: ONE HOUR INTO THIS INVASION, Dixie makes the challenge for the blow-off.
Drew came out to stand with Dixie and cut a fiery promo that was really good except it just makes me ask where the f*ck Drew was Lashley and the Wolves were getting the sh*t beaten out of them earlier. Speaking of those three, they have apparently forgiven Drew because they come out to stand with him and Dixie.
Also during this segment, I realized that Mordetzky is wearing a Chris Masters t-shirt. He probably shouldn’t be doing that.

HOLY F*CKING SH*T IT’S KENNY KING! I totally forgot he was still employed by TNA!
Kenny cuts a great “I don’t like the person I’ve been recently so I am now turning babyface” promo.

KENNY KING vs. BRAM- 4/10
So I guess they’re not editing Bram out.

JB INTERVIEWS THE HARDY BOYS- good

VELVET SKY PROMO- she cuts a good promo calling out Taryn. Taryn showed up on the PandaTron to cut a great promo (they really should have had her arm in a sling or a cast or something, though), aside from that “now you must play with my dollhouse” line at the end. That was just f*cking horrible.
Taryn sends the Dollhouse out to fight with Velvet. Velvet tries to talk tough and say that 3-on-1 isn’t enough to take her out… and then the Dollhouse just kick her ass all over the ring. That made me laugh. Then we got YET ANOTHER Beautiful People reunion (that would be the second in eighteen months, and the third in five years). Angelina cut a promo in which she claimed to be a badass which is impossible to take seriously because she’s dressed like a porn star. These girls just cannot play badasses. I can’t take them seriously at all.

TEAM TNA BACKSTAGE- Dixie talks about how she has to take this risk “for the people who have stayed to fight for TNA”… and she says this surrounded by four guys… the longest of whom have been in the company for eighteen months.
Davey says that “ever since we first walked in here” Dixie has “treated us like family.” I guess Davey forgot that he and Eddie were brought in as babyfaces to stand against the out-of-control heel Dixie.

JOSH ANNOUNCES THAT THE MATCH FOR CONTROL OF EVERYTHING WILL BE IN TWO WEEKS AND IT WILL BE LETHAL LOCKDOWN- this seemed a little weird to just have Josh randomly announce this. I think an announcement at the beginning of next week’s show would have been better.

TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH IN WHICH, IF MATT LOSES, JEFF MUST BECOME EC III’S PERSONAL SERVANT: Ethan Carter III(c) (w/Tyrus) vs. Matt Hardy (w/Jeff Hardy)- 6.75/10
Of course we MUST have a ref bump because it’s TNA. They also actually had me afraid that that stupid head-bnoking spot would be the finish. I really would have preferred to just have a clean match. It’s not like Ethan didn’t beat Matt cleanly last time.

This show was a decent show in the ring, but everything having to do with this “invasion” just totally failed for me because they have utterly failed to create an atmosphere that feels lie an interpromotional war. This, combined with the various logic hiccups and how fast the story moved tonight all really emphasize how hastily this whole thing has been thrown together.

COMMERCIAL FOR NEXT WEEK’S SHOW- the voiceover guy tells us that next week “the tension between TNA and Global Force Wrestling reaches a boiling point.” DUDE… IT ALREADY BOILED OVER! THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS SHOW!

How is this Dollhouse vs. Beautiful People Feud going to work if Angelina can't work because of the Davey-spawn inside of her?

hopefully the feud is fully taped and Gail can take the place of Love in the blow-off. if not just call Lacey Von erich, she was BP too
