Why? Just... why?
How about we maybe not make challengers not look like chumps by losing to the champions headinging into a title match?

How does losing to the champs make someone look like chumps? As long as they didn't get squashed they should be fine. Are none of the challenging teams suppose to lose leading up to the match? They'd have to all face the Ascension every week!

Because if we've already seen them lose to the champs, why should we think they can beat the champs in the title match?
And yes. When you have no other story behind it other than "we are having a title match" the challengers should not lose going into the match- and certainly not cleanly. If they all need to beat the Ascension or some other jobber team to make that happen, then yes.

there's not much time until Summerslam, they should just avoid doing tag matches with those guys altogether. Do 4 ways with members, or do a tag match with one member of each team. So they don't have to all face the ascension, but try no to make a straight up match

Since its a fatal four way, the champs don't even have to be pinned, so it doesn't hurt any of the challengers to lose to the champs. It helps the champs look strong going into a situation where they don't have to be pinned to lose the titles. The challengers don't have to look like they can pin the champs if they don't HAVE to pin them to win. Furthermore, considering they are heels, New Day can only benefit from pinning one of the other teams to win the titles. Then, PTP can remain strong challengers heading into Night of Champions. They wouldn't have to rely on the customary rematch, they can argue that they were never beaten for the titles. Definitely do some mixed up tag matches and singles matches involving the participants but why not have the actual teams battle for momentum leading up to the match?

The champs don't need to look strong by beating the challengers. They are already the champs. Any one of the challengers losing to the champs hurts the match. MAYBE it would work if they were doing a thing where Team A beat Team B, Team B beat Team C, Team C beat Team D, and Team D beat Team A in order to show that "anyone can beat anyone," but that's not what they're doing. They're just throwing matches out there for no reason without caring about the finishes. Just like they've always done with the tag division, and just like they are doing with the Divas division.

You haven't even seen what happens yet! You act as though they're burying New Day by having them lose to the champs when they're the one team that doesn't have a legit reason for getting a title shot.
Plus the scenario you mentioned is EXACTLY what happened! Los Matadores are in the running BC they pinned PTP, then the Lucha Dragons beat Matadores (right?) Making them contenders. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
Either way, I stand by the assertion that a fatal four way does not require the mystique of "any one of the contenders can beat the champ" BC they can win the title without even pinning the champs.

Exactly. If they don't have a legit reason for getting a title shot, ANY loss hurts them all the more.

I believe you are correct in that this is what happened but that is not the story they are telling. They're not telling any story at all other than "oh look! A tag team title match" and thus the challengers should not be losing to the champs.
