Yes. The difference is (and this is not me excusing when WWE does it; I'm merely explaining why I have hated it so much here)
1. When WWE does it, it tends to be in the service of telling a further story. In this case ANYONE from TNA's past would have worked, but instead they chose to use the one guy who opens up a million different cans of worms.
2. This is a much bigger mistake than forgetting that two guys had a feud last year. For that, I can believe that time heals most wounds. This is Kane might have used to lived in an asylum from the time he was a child until the time Paul Bearer brought him to the WWE... but I guess they let him out of the asylum to go to a party where he drove home and killed his good friend Katie Vick. It's a much worse level of bad.

Because they never ever mention it... except for those times when it's supposed to be the most important thing in the world, so for that show, they push it like it's the most important thing in the world, and it annoys me because it feels cheap. As I said when the rankings first came up, if you are going to do something like this, it a) needs to be important all of the time, and b) we need to understand how the system works. Things need to have visible consequences. TNA hasn't done that, so any time the rankings are mentioned, it feels like they are just pulling it out of their ass, which is bad.

Well... I clearly missed it. Even so, that's a crappy way to do it. Why not give me some promos from the guys who are in it (Grado, Low Ki, and ?) to actually make the damn thing seem important. Hell... the Low Ki promo would have been a great way to at least get the BDC on the show to remind us about their feud with The Rising, too.

TNA on the other hand didn't waste time in their shows, everything the showed was building up to something, Eddie/Roode was great, ECIII/Lashley was good aside from the finish, Jesse/DJZ was good, KOs match was good, at least better Charlotte vs KC Cassidy. Promo wise, Magnus, ECIII, Jesse, and even Taryn's bed stuff was great. This was really a good show from TNA. Arguably the only bad thing was the Joseph Park thing, and it was still passable.

What matches are they putting on the PPV? I don't think it matters since it seems that Slammaversary will not be canon, and they still have one more week anyway. ROH however, didn't promote their PPV for shit either, and it's 2 days from today, and that one IS canon, and it's their second most important show of the year, but that didn't make the show a bad show, even as a go-home show, did it?

It is a story that makes the most sense with Gail. In order to break Gail's record (and thus finally feel like she is out of Gail's shadow, Taryn must actually beat Gail.

It that on the TV show? No. Then how am I going to know about it? Not everyone is an internet fan, and even those of us who are internet fans tend to use our internet time to follow more internet-y promotions like CHIKARA than we do with WWE or TNA. I'm not on Twitter and I'm not subscribed to their youtube channel and I don't visit their website most of the time. You can't just rely on people visiting the website to get the concept over. And how difficult would it really be to f*cking post a graphic of the top 5 on the TV every week.
And even if they are doing all of these things, then why isn't the desire for wrestlers to "move up in the rankings" ever mentioned? Shouldn't it be brought up how a big a win it would be to knock off a ranked guy and move closer to a title shot every time someone is in the ring with a ranked guy?

Because NXT feels like it is going somewhere. Joe and Owens are feuding. Alexa, Blake, and Murphy are feuding with the New York crew. Dana Brooke called out Charlotte. They are building up Balor huge. I trust them to pay everything off, and to do so in a way that makes sense and tells a story well.
Yes, TNA has some stuff going on... but the big difference is that in NXT (and ROH, and LU, and even Evolve) it is with characters I care about and in TNA they have completely and totally squandered my faith that any of this will wind up being good.
Every time they have something good going, they either ruin it with something idiotic (like the whole Storm vs. Mickie James deal), or with sh*t follow-up that shows an inability to capitalize on things. Remember how awesome Bram was when he was feuding with Magnus? How did that end? Look at where Bram is now. Same thing for Gunner last year during his feud with James Storm. Now he's barely even on the show. Every time something seems to be going well in TNA, they squander it or ruin it. Joseph Park was an interesting character... until they forgot that HE'S NOT ABYSS BECAUSE HE AND ABYSS SHOWED UP IN THE SAME PLACE AT THE SAME TIME MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE BUILD-UP TO AND DURING HIS BIG FIRST MATCH.
I feel like nothing that is said on the show ever means anything (including the stips of matches). Why is Magnus asking Dixie Carter for a match with James Storm? She was supposed to have lost power over a year ago (and yet somehow still had it after that).
How is The Rising "standing up for wrestling" by fighting the BDC. Even if you believe their whole "titles have power" BS (even though it always seems like the opposite is true), then why aren't they stopping the BDC from winning titles?
The rankings are very important and it's important to win... except that they barely ever mention the rankings, and the few times that they have, the rankings have made no sense. After all... how has Ethan not been #1 if he has never been pinned or made to submit?
Even GOOD characters like Ethan they have to ruin by either putting in too much comedy or telling stupid, pointless lies (like the whole "undefeated streak" deal).
I'll call NXT or ROH out for being a do-nothing show, but those shows never sap my confidence in the bookers (and LU does only rarely). TNA has already taxed that (so has main-roster WWE, but at least we get great PPV matches from them) and opended it many times over. Until they get that back (and I had been loving things like Storm/Magnus/Mickie until they ruined it, or Gail vs. Taryn), I will call a go-nowhere, do nothing show a "bad" show. Because unlike ROH or NXT or LU, I don't feel like it is going anywhere even close to good.


What matches are they putting on the PPV? I don't think it matters since it seems that Slammaversary will not be canon, and they still have one more week anyway. ROH however, didn't promote their PPV for shit either, and it's 2 days from today, and that one IS canon, and it's their second most important show of the year, but that didn't make the show a bad show, even as a go-home show, did it?
The difference is that ROH is promoting a two-match show. I think that's a bad idea, but that's what they've chosen to do, and they have promoted those two matches (world title and tag titles) very well. I'd tell you the exact same thing about Summer Slam 2013. The only things that got any attention were Dragon vs. Cena and Lesnar vs. Punk.
Compare that to Slammiversary, where it is just over a week away and we know ONE match... and that one wasn't even mentioned on TV... and they even pulled their planned world title match off of the PPV to do it on a canned TV show that will be taped in such a way that either the PPV will be out of continuity or they'll spoil it's results with the tapings. Just the very fact that the TNA PPV is "out of continuity" is a HUGE strike against the company. And this is TNA's second biggest PPV of the year, too. It will have been OVER A YEAR since they had an in-continuity PPV.
I called ROH out for not promoting their PPV well, and I'll do the same to TNA. ROH was a great show, though, with a big moment in Cedric's heel turn and Moose's first lost, and an awesome main event. TNA had none of that. There have been maybe three TNA matches all year that have been better than ROH's main event this week, and that match isn't even one of the top ten ROH matches of the year. THAT' is why ROH was a good show and TNA was a bad one.
