BRM Reviews the 3/18/2015 Lucha Underground (AWESOME!)

BEST OF FIVE SERIES MATCH: Drago(1) vs. AeroStar(1)- 7/10
Very Lucha-rific.
KONNAN VIDEO PACKAGE- eh.
We get clips of Konnan beating guys up and also training them, interspersed with shots of two guys playing chess. When we zoom out, we learn that the two chess players are Prince Puma and Konnan. Neither of them apparently has any idea how to play chess, though, because I saw a king get captured about four times.
3-ON-1 NO DISQUALIFICATIONS ELIMINATION HANDICAP MATCH: The Crew vs. Big Ryck- 5/10
Well… That’s it, I guess. Feud over. That was short.
The only thing I would have changed here was that I wouldn’t have had Sexy Star keep kicking Cisqo down the stairs. All she needed to do was block his exit, or maybe give him one kick to force him back down. No DQ’s or not, I’d rather not have someone interfere on behalf of the babyface any more than is absolutely necessary.
TWO BIG MATCHES FOR NEXT WEEK- Del Rio defends the AAA Word Heavyweight Title against Texano Jr. in a bullrope match, and Prince Puma defends the Lucha Underground Championship against Cage in a Boyle Heights Street Fight. It doesn’t get much bigger than that.
GRAVE CONSEQUENCES MATCH: Mil Muertes vs. Fenix (w/Catrina)- 8.75/10
Matt Striker is heavily pushing the fact that someone might DIE in this match… and you know what? The wrestlers did a great job of getting that across. They didn’t do anything too insane, but they did a great job of having you constantly on the edge of your seat thinking you are about to see something insane. This was one of those matches that makes you remember what a stretcher match or a casket match is supposed to be.
An awesome episode of Lucha Underground!
STUPID ANNOUNCER QUOTES:
1. Matt Striker (about Drago and AeroStar)- “Both of these Luchadors know what’s at stake.”
No, Matt. They don’t. That’s the whole gimmick. We are supposed to want to find out what this mysterious “unique opportunity” that Dario offered them is.
2. Matt Striker, who prefaces every intergender match on this by trying to talk up how Lucha underground is championing gender equality, women’s lib, etc. etc…. tells us that last week Big Ryck “did the honorable thing and gained the victory without actually… let’s say… ‘hurting’ Sexy Star”
So women on this show are so tough and equal to men… but it would be dishonorable to actually hit one of them with a wrestling move within the confines of a wrestling match because they’re so weak and fragile that they might break in half if you do.
Very Lucha-rific.
