Is that when his weight was out of control? I remember he was sent to OVW for a while to, literally, "shape up" or ship out. But, given this timeline, I thought that was WAY before '08...

No. That was in 2001-2002.
This was when he just retired for a year to go learn boxing. He worked an indy show with Hogan when WWE wouldn't let Lawler do it, then came back for the Mayweather match at WrestleMania XXIV.

That's TWENTY-THREE turns in less than fifteen years (including the year off in 2007). If my math is correct (read as: if I didn't mistype on my calculator app), that is one turn every 7.7 months.

it's not an official turn yet, maybe Kane adds one to his instead
