Foley Blogs on Bryan Angle, Fighting Against Bad Ideas

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley wrote the following on Facebook about WWE’s handling of Daniel Bryan’s character:
“Whether Daniel Bryan – WWE Universe knows it or not, NOW is the time that the fiercest fighting takes place for a WWE champion – and it has nothing to do with the action in the ring. Now is the time to step up and shoot down horrible ideas that can derail even the most promising of ideas. I used to joke that Daniel was the exception to the rule that every top guy in WWE has been perceived at one time or another as a pain in the neck – largely for their willingness to step up and call the creative team out on bad ideas when they see them. That thing I saw tonight – that thing with Daniel and Brie Bella – WWE Universe and the car? That was a bad idea – one that never should have seen the light of day.

I have said on several occasions that I used up my ammo when it came to complaining about WWE storylines when I went to bat for the #YesMovement in the aftermath of the Royal Rumble. I’m going to do my very best to do just that. But I’ll first ask everyone involved – Daniel, Brie, Hunter, Steph, Vince, etc., to take a good look at the nearly identical storyline that ran Zack Ryder’s promising career off the rails…and do everything they can to avoid that same horrible stretch of track.”

Is it really fair to compare Daniel Bryan to Zack Ryder? The storyline is obviously recycled, but clearly it's original intended outcome was derailed/rewritten/scrapped (I'm thinking by inclusion of Cena). I don't see Brie making out with Cena next week. It might look like they are, but.... nevermind, I'll take the high road.

Dragon and Kane have great chemistry, I'm not too worried about their direction.

They're not quite identical, but there are too many common elements for comfort... especially elements that would cause things to be described as "hokey," which will kill Dragon's serious character (especially when there is a 100% awesome, serious feud going on in Evolution vs. Shield).

I think my biggest issue with the comparison is the fact that DB has The WWE World Heavyweight Championship around his waist and a cross-over following going into this, while Ryder had the US Title and a cult-hit YouTube show. If the titles hadn't unified, and Dragon was holding the WHC for this... then I'd be worried. But, I think with EVERYTHING he's got going and everything they've invested in him (they basically gave him his own Wrestlemania) I think they'll be treading lightly with this. Remember, they WANTED him to be working with (and going over) Batista right now, so let's hope they learned from their mistakes from the last time around and see what they've got in mind.

As for killing his serious character... from what I've seen, indy stuff and what-not, he probably shouldn't be counting on his serious side to keep him over. He's terrible at it. That smirk, man... he constantly looks like he's ready to corpse.

You've got to find his dickish heel indy stuff or his stuff from 2007 and 2008. That is some serious Dragon for you.
