BRM Reviews the 4/6/2013 ROH

ADAM PAGE & MIKE SYDAL vs. TADARIUS THOMAS & ACH- 4.5/10
Very good for the time it was given.
BACKSTAGE SEGMENT WITH VEDA SCOTT, MSCHIF, TRUTH MARTINI, & SCARLETT BORDEAUX- this was freakin’ weird on a whole lot of levels. First, I don’t think I have ever seen MsChif wearing regular clothing before… and I don’t think I have ever heard her actually speak words before, either. For someone who can scream so high, her voice was surprisingly low. Truth Martini (with Scarlett) interrupted Veda’s interview of her to try to recruit her to be a Hoopla Hottie, but MsChif turns him down and insulted both him and the Hoopla Hotties. After MsChif walked off, Scarlett said that MsChif wasn’t hot enough to be a Hoopla Hottie. Then Truth told her that she had better win the Four Corner Survival match tonight, then whispered something in her ear that made her cry… except her facial expression was almost cartoonish. Then Truth wiped Scarlett’s tears up, licked them off of his finger and said that the tears of women arouse him. I swear I am not making this up.
SUPERCARD OF HONOR VII HYPE SEGMENT- would it really have been that much work to just shoot a new one of these for this week? It can still hype up Supercard of Honor, but just telling people to buy the replay instead, and change up which matches you hype (for example, don’t hype up the Haas vs. Benjamin match because we now know that it won’t be happening, and don’t hype up the tag title match because it gives away the result of this week’s main event!)
FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH: MsChif vs. Athena vs. Scarlett Bordeaux vs. Cherry Bomb- 4/10
They did a good job with the time that they had. I really liked Athena picking up the win here. The last period of time in which women were featured in the ring with any sort of regularity in ROH was from 2007-2010, and during that time, a very disappointing trend developed: Every time ROH decided to bring in a new female talent, it always wound up as that woman jobbing to Lacey, Daziee, Sara, or MsChif and nothing would ever come of it (the only exception to this pattern was Awesome Kong in 2010). Having someone besides MsChif get the win here sends a message to the fans that Women of Honor matches aren’t just going to be the same old go-nowhere time-fillers of the past.
The stuff with MsChif and Scarlett was good, too, although the attitude with which MsChif no-sold Scarlett’s (kayfabe weak) strikes in the corner felt less like MsChiff and more like Sara Del Rey or Cheerleader Melissa.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- Veda Scott goes to interview MsChif about her first loss but MsChif doesn’t answer any of her questions and instead turns to leave. Veda grabs her shoulder to stop her so MsChif turns around and sprays Green Mist in her eyes. Obviously MsChif overreacted but I will say that Veda came off as kind of annoying here, too.
INSIDE ROH SEGMENT- The only thing they did here was hype up tonight’s tag team title main event… and this was just bad. Not only have they already given the result of the match away, but Kevin Kelly says that Nigel decided to give Forever Hooligans this shot because he was so impressed with their effort in their loss to the American Wolves at the 11th Anniversary Show . Not only is this factually incorrect (it was announced way before the 11th Anniversary Show on the ROH website that Forever Hooligans would challenge the winners of the Briscoes vs. reDRagon tag title match from 11th Anniversary Show [/i ] at the TV tapings the next day), but it also doesn’t make much sense that Nigel would give the losers of the match a title shot for their effort before giving the winners a title shot.
RODERICK STRONG vs. PEPPER PARKS- 4.5/10
ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: reDRagon(c) vs. Forever Hooligans- 7/10
Overall an okay show from ROH. The main event was great and the stuff with the women was interesting, but nothing else felt like it mattered.
STUPID ANNOUNCER QUOTES:
1. Caleb Setlzer (after MsChif hits Veda Scott with the Green Mist)- “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!” Umm… no one was scorned here, Caleb, so this quote is entirely irrelevant.
Very good for the time it was given.
