Post by cero2k » Feb 3rd, '11, 18:52

with so many promotions out there, with so many shows that need a name, some must be pretty bad, right??

just to get them out of the way
TLC

TLC because when I first saw it I straight away thought of Tender Loving Care.

Road Wild because to me it never made sense. Wha does it have to do with wrestling? Unless someone can tell me.

Fatal 4 Way. This is just the worst of the worst. It is worse than all of the other WWE gimmick PPVs (aside from Breaking Point, which was the only one with a good name). It is worse than the late WCW crap like Sin and Greed. It is worse than the lamest of the indy names (looking at you, Contention, and the dumb DGUSA names like "Freedom Fight"). Hell... it is even worse than Souled Out!

A lot of ROH show names suck.

Clash of the Contenders (it works but it's really corny and doesn't sound good)
Reverse the Curse
Gold Rush
Epic Encounter (lame)
Contention
Insanity Unleashed (super corny)
Eliminating the Competition
The French Contention
Breakout
Transform

Must I continue?

I would say most indy shows have bad names, but CZW and IWA-MS usually have awesome names.

I am fine with corny names as long as they make sense (Insanity Unleashed, Eliminating the Competition, Clash of the Contenders etc).
I actually liked Epic Encounter.
Breakout was lame but good, since the title actually refers to Tyler Black's breakout match against Bryan Danielson
Reverse the Curse was a GREAT name. It made perfect sense, and was both a reference to the World Title mach that night, the #1 contender in that match, and sports history of the city in which it took place.

You are totally right about The French Connection, though. I can't believe I forgot about that one, considering that it is sitting on my shelf.

The other thing that you have to remember about indy names (especially in older companies like ROH and JAPW that don't use repeat names as often as other companies do) is that they have to name EVERY show. WWE and TNA only have to name a few. The more shows you have run, the more good names you use up. While indy shows will have some of the worst names you'll ever see, they will also have some of the best (Bound By Hate, Violent Tendencies, Irresistible Forces, Arena Warfare, Ring of Homicide, Southern Hostility, etc.)
