BRM Reviews the 7/19/2017 NXT

Post by Big Red Machine » Jul 20th, '17, 19:08

The show opened with Mauro making an oddly heavy-handed plea for us to “get [the main event] trending!”

EMBER MOON vs. RUBY RIOT- 7.25/10
A great, athletic pure babyface vs. babyface match!

ITAMI & OHNO VIDEO FROM EARLIER- fine for what it was. The important part is that we learned that these two are having a match next week!

ONEY LORCAN vs. DANNY BURCH- 6/10
Hard hitting action with a Calgary Crab finish. It’s nice to see Lorcan finally getting some traction. We got a post-match handshake and a promise of a rematch. It’s like we’re living in a babyface paradise tonight.

NO WAY JOSE vs. CEZAR BONONI- 2/10
For those who don’t remember, we were reminded that Bononi was that guy who beat Andrade “Cien” Almas two months ago in a shocking upset. Speaking of shocking upsets, Bononi got beaten here, fairly quickly.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- good.
Almas and the as of yet unnamed Thea Trinidad showed up after the match and Almas attacked Bononi. Thea seemed to disapprove, but she seemed fine with Almas hiding behind her when Jose came back to make the save.

WINNER BECOMES #1 CONTENDER TO THE NXT TITLE AT TAKEOVER: BROOKLYN III: Drew McIntyre vs. Killian Dain- 6.5/10
Dain has been given his own variation on SAnitY’s music. That’s interesting, mostly because it means that there are probably some sort of plans in place to split him away from them at some point down the line.
Dain destroyed Drew until Drew hit three big moves in a row and won. I got what they were going for with Dain kicking out of the Future Shock DDT at one, then starting to get up before Drew could even make it over to cover him on the first Claymore (only to be put down by a second Claymore moments later), but I think it would have worked better if Drew had hit all of his stuff in quick succession.

A great episode of NXT!

Where were all the champions?
When they come, they'll come at what you love.
