BRM Reviews the 6/21/2017 NXT (Ohno vs. Aleister)

Post by Big Red Machine » Jun 23rd, '17, 11:00

EMBER MOON vs. PEYTON ROYCE (w/Billie Kay)- 5.5/10
Royce works over Ember’s previously injured shoulder but Ember Moon overcomes the numbers disadvantage and the work on her shoulder to get the win.

KASSIUS OHNO & HIDEO ITAMI BACKSTAGE- very good. Itami gave what sounded like a sincere apology. Ohno said “don’t worry understand what you’re going through” (which also served to spell it out for those watching who might not quite get it). Because this is wrestling, however, this all means that Itmami will cost Ohno the math n tonight’s main event.

EALY BROTHERS vs. SAnitY (Alexander Wolfe & Eric Young)- no rating, decent squash
I wonder where the rest of SAnitY was.

RACHEL EVERS vs. SONYA DEVILLE- meh squash

BOBBY ROODE/RODERICK STRONG “ALTERCATION”- very good.
Roode was doing a photoshoot when the Strong Family walked by. Roode made fun of them, culminating in saying “Hey, Marina! If you ever want to be with a real man let me know,” which resulted in Roddy charging at Roode and they had brawl that was quickly broken up. This has somehow earned Roddy a title shot in two weeks. Speaking of title shots in future weeks and brawls involving champions, due to last week’s brawl that ended their title match with no clear winner, Nikki Cross will get another title shot against Asuka next week, this time in a Last Man Standing match.

KASSIUS OHNO vs. ALEISTER BLACK- 8/10
Tom Phillips tells us that “there is history between Kassius Ohno and Aleister Black” but of course he won’t tell us what it is because it happened in EVOLVE. Sometimes the tightropes WWE (and NXT in particular) will try to walk between saying things to make the matches seem bigger and the “only WWE exists” policy make them look ridiculous. Thankfully we had Nigel McGuinness to tell us that Ohno “had a role in training Aleister Black.” Was that really so hard, Tom?
The match was exactly what you would expect from these two, which was utter awesomeness based around them beating the sh*t out of each other. Black won cleanly, which isn’t what I was expecting. Thankfully, instead of the “mainstream” wrestling route they took the Gabe route and gave us a clean finish, which will likely advance the Ohno-Itami angle next week by the way Ohno behaves in reaction to this clean loss. Will he show Itami the right way to take a loss, or will he snap, too, and prove himself to be hypocritical- or at the very least show us that Itami’s frustrated reactions to losses as of late are not as easy to avoid as Ohno has perhaps made it seem.

A great episode of NXT, although mainly off the strength of the main event.

Watson said "Why are they here?" About Kaye and.... Peyton Royce. Best announcer quote ever lol.
When they come, they'll come at what you love.
