To make it work they'd have to cut some of the lower-card guys (which I'm mostly in favor of) but even then you'd get basically one women's match per event and it would just feel like a rotating troupe of women rather than are real division. IMO, not worth it.

maybe, but still, one match + backstage segment should be good to work things around. They get the same treatment as the rest of the guys. If TNA and WWE can manage it with only one women segment per show, surely ROH could too

Again, like Maria said in her interview: if ROH is going to do it, they are going to do it right. WWE hardly manages to do it right, and TNA gives the women two or three segments per show.

Apparently Maria's big announcement in Vegas was that she is trying to get Aries to join the Kingdom, so it looks like he'll be staying around!

Also, apparently Marty "The Moth" Martinez from Lucha Underground was in the crowd.

From this week's Observer:
They are looking at producing a test all-women's show sometime very soon. The idea is to be like some of the indie groups that have booked arenas and done afternoon women's shows taped for DVD prior to the evening men's shows (that also include women's matches). The situation will be similar, doing a test run show called Women of Honor on an afternoon before a women's show. Right now there are no plans on including this as part of the television package. They are looking at bringing in women from Japan for the first show after the great crowd reaction to Nanae Takahashi's match with ODB in Las Vegas and a dark match with Mandy Leon vs. Deonna Purrzo turned out well on the 7/25 show in Baltimore.

So... this article went up on the mothership today:
A View of the Future with the Women of Honor
“Death Before Dishonor Weekend” in Baltimore saw Lethal and Strong go the distance in an amazing 60-minute draw, ROH proved it has the deepest tag team division anywhere in the wrestling world and there was a welcome surprise to kick off Night Two’s action.

The return of the Women of Honor is underway. Great women’s wrestling in ROH has been a major factor of the company’s history from Sara Del Rey and Daizee Haze, to ODB and the “First Lady of ROH” and ruler of the Kingdom, Maria Kanellis. ROH officials thought it was high time to give deserving woman wrestlers a chance. In the match we saw in Baltimore, the host of “Inside ROH” and ROH Dojo product, Mandy Leon, went up against Rip Rogers trainee and one of the toughest women in wrestling, Deonna Purrazzo.

This was Leon and Purrazzo’s first opportunity inside an ROH ring, and they did not take it lightly. Purrazzo put on one heck of a fight, but the “Leon-sault” sealed the deal and Mandy made her Women of Honor and ROH debut a successful one. Yet, the moment many people will be talking about will be the surprise appearance of Taeler Hendrix, as she made her presence felt in Ring of Honor.

ROH officials were very impressed with both Leon and Purazzo while being interested to learn the motives of Hendrix. Rumors are circulating that there could be more Women of Honor matches coming soon and that may just be the start of things to come.

Enjoy this special “Women of Honor” match – Mandy Leon vs Deonna Purrazzo, as called by Ian Riccaboni and Matt Ryan.

I cannot believe they mentioned either ODB or Maria Kanellis in the same sentence as "great women's wrestling." Well... maybe I could accept a sentence along the lines of "ODB is capable of great women's wrestling if she has someone who can carry her," but I doubt ROH would ever write that.

And no. Great women's wrestling has NEVER been a big part of ROH. I hate to say it, but it's true. Great female characters certainly have been, but great women's wrestling has always been a by-product of wanting to give those characters a reason to stay around and something different to do.

So they spend all of this time recently hyping up their newest attempt at a women's division... and at the TV tapings leading into Final Battle, they do ZERO women's matches... but make sure that Brutal Bob vs. Cheeseburger get to tape an angle.

Edit: apparently they did tape a women's match... and it sucked so bad they won't air it. Again.

Why are they insisting on going with these women who are barely-known at best? What is so hard about asking some of the SHIMMER/SHINE crowd to come in?

i'm guessing they're just trying to get their dojo students on the shows, I assume that Mandy Leon is one, and since i couldn't find anything on Tracy Aries, i assume she's another one. so i don't see them putting a lot of money in bringing in girls, and maybe they don't want girls that do iPPV for other promotions (SHINE)

LVD isn't one of theirs, nor is Dobson, nor Kelly Kline. Nor Hendrix for that matter. You'd think that Daizee would be able to convince someone to come in for them.

And seeing as Mandy is about the only one to graduate from the Dojo and Mandy sucks... I REALLY have to question the worth of the ROH dojo. Who has it produced that has been any good in the ring? There's Pelle Primeau, Grizzly Redwood, Rhett Titus... and that's it. Not that Cheeseburger and Ferrara and the ghosts of students past (Sugarfoot, Andy Ridge, The Dempseys, Hagadorn etc.) weren't competent... it's just that they aren't/weren't anything above competent. If these students are going to keep sucking, there are going to need to just start booking other indy dudes instead of relying on these dumb tryout camps.

those women they're bringing in to pair up with the students, and like i said, they some of the choices that aren't appearing in other iPPVs. I don't think it's a deal about convincing them, but more about money and exclusivity. Hell, i don't even know if the ROH/SHIMMER relationship is still strong since Prazak/Daizee left ROH

you're 100% correct on the dojo, they haven't created anyone, even Rhett is nothing without Kenny King, and he's the biggest name to come out of it. I would blame it on these kids not taking bookings outside of ROH, i'm sure guys like Ferrara would be popular other places and get more experience. They should get NJPW to take Ferrara as a young boy at least. It also doesn't help that ROH has the weakest looking students in all of wrestling, i know they pride themselves in creating excellence, but at some point you need to see cheeseburger and tell the kid he just doesn't look like a champion, Colin Delaney is John Cena next to cheeseburger.

Well Daizee is Delirious'... girlfriend?/wife?/whatever, so assume they have an in with her. As for exclusivity, I would HIGHLY doubt that any of the women would be high enough up on ROH's list to be signed to exclusive contracts. Right now it's just Lethal, Cole, The Briscoes, ACH, Moose, and reDRagon and also Roddy (aside from PWG). If Cedric or Sydal aren't under that sort of contract, there's no way they're giving one to Mercedes Martinez or CLM or whoever.

not exclusivity to sign a contract, but girls that aren't on iPPV for SHINE. i don't think ROH allows any of their guys, contract or not, to do iPPV for anyone else

They used to let Roddy do it, although other than Roddy, I don't know if there is anyone on the roster who has even worked for a company that does iPPV. All of the others that do are either CZW or Gabe & Sal owned. I don't think there's actually heat between ROH and Prazak or ROH and Danger. I think Prazak just uses WWN (and Sal's DVD production) as a platform for his companies. Then again SHINE's location makes me think that it's entirely possible that Sal is the guy behind the promotion, so maybe there is an issue.
Either way, there have got to be some women working for AAW or ACW that are better than the women we've been getting.
