BRM Reviews the 4/25/2014 Smackdown (crap)

Post by Big Red Machine » Apr 27th, '14, 16:02

VICKIE PROMO- Vickie says that the Authority has decided to take the night off. For the main event, she has booked The Shield against 11 guys. Again.

VERBAL DEBATE: Paul Heyman (w/Cesaro) vs. Zeb Coulter (w/Jack Swagger)- Boring.
Paul wastes all of his time saying that Lesnar broke The Streak. At this point he might as well get it embroidered on his suit. The only good thing here was Zeb wanting to fight Heyman. They had a pull-apart.

JACK SWAGGER (w/Zeb Coulter) vs. CESARO (w/Paul Heyman)- 5.25/10
Why would you do this match and the previous segment on the same show? Hell... why would you do this match for free at all?
Anyway, Cesaro beats Swagger totally clean in a match that should have been much longer and much better. Meanwhile, backstage, WWE management stuffed some empty oil drums full of money and set it on fire.

THE SHIELD ATTACK JACK SWAGGER- DUD!
The Shield, babyfaces, beat Swagger up THREE ON ONE , AFTER SWAGGER HAS ALREADY WRESTLED. It doesn't matter if Swagger is going to be in the handicap match later on. Babyfaces don't people beat up three on one after they have already wrestled. If they wanted to have the Shield beat Swagger up to take him out of the match, why not do it BEFORE THE MATCH so the Shield look less heelish and so the match Swagger vs. Cesaro match is protected?

DIVAS TITLE VIDEO PACKAGE- GREAT!

NATALYA vs. TAMINA- 3.75/10
Tamina is still wearing an AJ shirt. Her superkick of death is now being used as a finisher. This should have happened months ago.

3MB & THE SHIELD BACKSTAGE- now THIS is how you do it!
The babyfaces beat up the heels in a FAIR FIGHT.

SEGMENT IN VICKIE'S OFFICE- Hunter called her and apparently told Vickie to take the night off and give control of the show to Maddux. How will this help them in any way?

CURTIS AXEL (w/Ryback) vs. JEY USO (w/Jimmy Uso)- 4.75/10
More build to a tag title match. Apparently the match will be happening on Raw. Hopefully they use this as a reason to add a stip to the match for Extreme Rules.

BRAY WYATT PROMO- awesome

CODY RHODES & GOLDUST vs. THE WYATT FAMILY (w/Bray Wyatt)- 5/10

MADDOX & THE SHIELD IN THE GM'S OFFICE- they assault poor, innocent Brad Maddox, who hasn't done anything to them all. BOOOOO!

MIXED TAG TEAM MATCH: Santino Marella & Emma vs. Fandango & Layla El- no rating.
OH COME ON!
Fandango is already booked in the f*cking main event... and we STILL have to see this damn feud?!
Or not. The Shield beat Fandango up 3-on-1, then give him a triple powerbomb off the stage.

HANDICAP MATCH: The Shield vs. Ryback, Alberto Del Rio, Damien Sandow, Titus O’Neil, Bad News & Barrett- no rating.
(Apparently Curtis Axel got taken out off camera during a commercial break).
I don’t want to give this a DUD, because it accomplished its goal it wasn’t poorly worked, but I really just did not care about it at all. THIs is what happens when you have your babyfaces look like heels all night, have absolutely no doubt that the babyfaces are going to win, and they do so with almost no trouble against overwhelming odds. They made FIVE GUYS look like total chumps, including the guy going into the finals of the IC Title #1 Contendership tournament (and the presumptive #1 Contender) and one half of the team challenging for the tag titles on Raw.

Overall, a terrible, self-destructive episode of Smackdown.

THE SHEILD ARE NOT BABYFACES! How are they babyfaces? When have they come in solely to save a babyface? NEVER, they just don't like HHH and co. They're getting revenge on all the guys who jumped them; it's PAYBACK! They are a unit who operates AS A UNIT. Why are they spose to stop doing what they've done since day one? Just to adopt an idea of being one of the "good guys," which fans absolutely HATE these days (Sheamus and Orton get booed as faces bc they do what you think babyfaces should do; they get cheered when they don't, so why would they follow that paradigm when said paradigm only works on children?)?

And I disagree about the Swagger/Cesaro match; I thought it was pretty good. Swagger was prolly as good as I've ever seen him. I feel you on the debate tho, although there were some great lines from Coulter sprinkled into his ramblings. I like that Heyman just obnoxiously brags about his clients, too. The rest of the matches and segments (aside from the Shield stuff) were pretty lame. I just like that the Shield are sticking with what brought them to the dance and made the fans like them. They're not getting cheered bc they're going against HHH, they were getting cheered before then BC OF WHAT THEY DO. No point in changing that.....

I see what you're saying about the Shield, but didn't they save Lawler before they knew that Hunter set them up? If so, that would make them babyfaces.

They didn't save Lawler; they ignored an order from Kane. They were pissed off at Kane, so they didn't attack him for helping get the word out about the Occupy Raw thing in Memphis. The motivation is different: They didn't refuse bc it was the wrong thing to do; they refused bc they didn't want to do what Kane said....

I thought they actually attacked Kane to save Lawler at that point.
