BRM Reviews the 9/1/2011 Impact

Post by Big Red Machine » Sep 2nd, '11, 08:59

OPENING SEGMENT- Dull, but at least we got an explanation of why Hogan has to follow the stips of the match that Flair (who has no official kayfabe power) set.

BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Gunner vs. Rob Van Dam- 4.75/10. RVD should have at least taken Gunner’s finisher. I liked the stuff with Joe and Morgan, though.

KAREN JARRETT IS IN CHARGE OF THE KNOCKOUTS- not a bad use of Karen, but what I hate is the (mis)use of Traci. Didn’t they say that she was kayfabe involved with (if not married to) Kaz back February? And all of a sudden they are implying that she is doing sexual favors for Bischoff? It needlessly hurts a good, pure babyface character by making her look like a whore. It is hard for me to feel sorry for Karen abusing her when she was putting out for Bischoff in order to get some power.

AUSTIN ARIES & KID KASH vs. JESSE SORENSEN & BRIAN KENDRICK- 5.25/10.

ANGELINA & WINTER-umm… okay…

MICKIE JAMES PROMO- Great.

PROMO FOR JEFF’S RETURN- eh. At least they are hyping it up. Sting speaking bothered me, though because he is supposed to be kayfabe insane.

TNA KNOCKOUTS’ TITLE MATCH: Winter(c) (w/Angelina Love) vs. Mickie James- 4.75/10. Mickie wins the belt back. If was just going to win it back in three weeks, why have her lose it at all?

MORGAN CALLS JOE OUT- GREAT!

ROBBIE E, ROB TERRY, & EY- Good.

AJ & DANIELS TEASE SOMETHING- I am actually intrigued, but I know that this is TNA and it will be a letdown.

IMMORTAL BACKSTAGE- entirely pointless. Hogan tells Immortal things that are obvious to both us and them.

AJ STYLES vs. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS- 6.5/10. I understand why they did that finish, but it was just SOOOOO lame! And Daniels not shaking AJ’s hand is pretty much character assassination. It goes against everything we have been told over the past few months. The finish that they did is clearly meant to make AJ and Daniels even at one each, with Daniels still having cause to doubt himself and want one more match. If they wanted Daniels to go heel on AJ, JUST HAVE HIM WIN WITH A ILLEGAL LEVERAGE, don’t do this stupid finish!

TNA WORLD TITLE MATCH WITH HULK HOGAN AS THE SPECIAL GUEST ENFORCER: Kurt Angle(c) vs. Sting- 6.5/10. How the hell did Hebner not hear the chairshot? And he SAW the Angle Slam on the chair! Furthermore, this finish doesn’t make much sense. All it does is set Sting up as the uncrowned champion, when he won’t be getting a title shot anytime soon, as he has upcoming matches against Flair, and then (because we all know he’ll beat Flair) against Hogan. If Immortal just wanted to hurt sting, why not just TAKE THE DQ?! Kurt will still retain the belt, and they can then all come down and injure him. The Angle Lock is great, but wouldn’t a Pillmanizer be better? And remember, earlier in the night, when Hogan told all of Immortal to be on standby in case he needed them to help him deal with Sting? So far, only Gunner came out. Where is everyone else? If the World Title is as important as they keep telling us, then they should have all come running out to help defend it!

AFTERMATH- TERRIBLE! Sting just took Kurt’s FINISHER ONTO A STEEL CHAIR! He shouldn’t be able to just jump back up. It’s called selling, Stinger. Not only that, but he takes Kurt out, then corners Hogan. Then all of Immortal comes out and beats Sting down (because apparently Hogan is more important than the World Title, until Anderson makes the save (which was the only good part about this). I will, however give TNA some credit this time, as Immortal didn’t run away from Anderson like they have in similar situations in the past. This time, they realized that there were, like, six of them, and only one of him, and actually fought, letting Anderson get over by kicking some ass.

Overall, this episode of Impact wasn’t very good. It was full of sh*tty finishes and character assassination, with nothing worthy of being a main event.

Hebner looked drunk as a skunk tonight.

I thought the Knockouts Title match was really good. It made sense that Winter was saying she'd never lose, but then Mickie beats her, but I think they jumped the gun and made it happen way too soon. It made Winter look stupid.
