signed a 20 year contract with WWE just under a year before the Montreal Screwjob, then about 2 months before the screwjob Vince McMahon told Bret he wanted out because he couldn't afford to pay him?

Yup. This money was put to much better use via the Hardy Boyz and E&C (and a whole host of others)

Agreed!!! :)

Plus at the time i think Bret had turned 40, so question is how long into his contract would he have stayed with WWE anyway??
