wXw We Love Wrestling #39: Revenge Rumble (10/22/2022)- Dresden, Germany

EARLIER TODAY, AN INTERVIEW WITH METEHAN WAS INTERRUPTED BY BOBBY GUNNS- good
The interviewer first informs Metehan that his opponent for tonight has been changed from Michael Knight to Johnny Rancid because Knight was unable to be on tonight’s show. He then asks Metehan for his thoughts on being in Dresden for the first time since 2019. Metehan responded that he didn’t care. He’s just here to make money.
Bobby Gunns comes up to him and asks why, if he is here to make money, he keeps turning down his offer for a match. Metehan says that he will face Bobby on his time, not Bobby’s. I would normally dismiss this as a lazy explanation by the booker, but given that their issue stems from Bobby screwing Metehan on a deal in the past, Metehan taking a hard line with Bobby makes sense.
They were then interrupted by Bobby’s opponent tonight, Rambo. Bobby and Rambo traded some barbs, and Bobby and Metehan traded some more. Bobby left, at which point Rambo asked Metehan if they could talk some “business,” at which point Metehan and Rambo demanded that the interviewer and cameraperson scram.

LAURANCE ROMAN vs. FAST TIME MOODO- 7.5/10
This was easily the best match I’ve seen Roman have, and while he certainly held up his end of things, Moodo really shined here. Good selling of his knee, GREAT babyface fire, and a real drive to succeed. He feels like a guy who is ready for a shot at the next level up on the card.

AXEL TISCHER PROMO- decent
This was good build for the main event, but his comments about Tristan Archer being a “rat” for “bending the rules” was meant to be him purposely being a little hypocritical and foreshadowing a heel turn more in line with his slightly heelish behavior at World Tag Team Festival, or it was just a poor decision on his part to say it and a booker decision on the booker’s part to not make him do another take. He brought in the Frenchadors. They need to stop doing that “French kiss” thing with the title belts. It’s really douchy.

BOBBY GUNNS vs. RAMBO- 6.5/10
Gunns wins clean in an action-packed 7:42, making Rambo submit to Metehan’s crossface.

JACOB CRANE PROMO- very bad
Out of nowhere, he is a heel who hates getting bodyslammed. There is a good story to be hold in this youngster letting a dirty win over a bigger star go to his head and turning heel out of that (although it coming from a win via interference makes it a little more ridiculous). Instead, wXw just rushed a heel turn and total character change, and even worse, they did it all off-screen. He talked for a long time and was not very good. Levaniel came out to tell him to be quiet and vow to bodyslam him.

JACOB CRANE vs. LEVANIEL- no rating, dull segment
Levaniel squashed Crane, including bodyslamming him. Okay, Levaniel got his win back from the bullsh*t loss via interference, but other than that mostly needless task (because Crane is on such a low level), all this did was go show off Crane’s random new character, which itself sucks, and to start if off with a squash loss isn’t a good way to debut a new gimmick.

AMBOSS PROMO- decent build for the next, doing the important job of reminding us that their opponents for tonight aren’t just people they have been feuding with, but also Icarus’ students.

PETER TIHANYI & ORIS vs. AMBOSS (Robert Dreissker & Icarus) (w/Laurance Roman)- 8/10
This was an awesome, heated brawl. I just wish they had bumped the ref before doing all of those spots where they were on the outside forever. Amboss won by referee stoppage when Tihanyi couldn’t continue. Amboss menaced him after the match.

JOHNNY RANCID vs. METEHAN- 6/10
I was surprised at how long it took Metehan to get the win here, but they told a story with it, with him getting more frustrated as time went on. He also worked over Rancid’s midsection in way you don’t see very often, which I appreciated.

PETER TIHANYI INTERVIEW- good enough
An interviewer asks him for an update on his nose after his match earlier. He angrily tells her “look at it! It’s bloody and it’s broken!” He demanded a match against any member of Amboss at Drive of Champions 2022 and warned them that they would be seeing a different side of Peter Tihanyi. His emotion was very good here, and his words were perfectly fine for someone speaking his second language.

AVA EVERETT PROMO- bad
This was one of those where you have an annoying heel and the crowd is chanting “SHUT THE F*CK UP!” and the heel is reacting to it, and instead of siding with the crowd, you just wish they’d shut up so the heel can get the promo over with already. She said she’s board wrestling the women, so she went to Norman Harras and asked to wrestle men. He said he had a special surprise for her tonight, so she asked for her surprise to come out now.

ZERITUS vs. AVA EVERETT- DUD!
For those who don’t know, Zeritus is a big dude who looks scary except that he moves in a goofy manner, like an exaggerated version of Frankenstein’s monster. Ava could only get offense on him by setting it up with illegal moves like going to the eyes. She eventually tried to hit him with her (presumably loaded) handbag, but he blocked it and tried to hit her with it but the ref took it away, and while the ref’s back was turned, Ava hit Zeritus with a low blow. She then hit Zeritus with a superkick and rolled him up for the pin.
This was bad. You had an annoying heel as the underdog against someone who was so goofy I didn’t want to see him win, either, and Zeritus’ goofy movements made this impossible to enjoy.

ROTT & FLOTT & TRISTAN ARCHER INTERVIEW- meh
Rott & Flott were completely right that it’s silly to just to put the tag titles on the line in a tournament when the champions were completely healthy. Archer agreed with them, and said that tonight he would beat Axel Tischer in his home town, in front of his family.

AXEL TISCHER & THE FRENCHADORS vs. ROTT & FLOTT & TRISTAN ARCHER- 8.25/10
Nothing revolutionary. Just a fun six-man tag with the tried-and-true story of the babyface in peril. Tischer pinned Schenkenberg to get the win.

This was a pretty great show from wXw, with a two notable exceptions, both of which had to do with stupid, schticky comedy characters. I’m not sure why they felt the need to use the word “rumble” in the name of a show without some kind of battle royale on it, though. I certainly wouldn’t have. Anyway, Drive of Champions is next.
