Warner Bros. Discovery would like language on AEW programming ‘toned down’

There will likely be less swearing on AEW programming moving forward.

There will likely be less swearing on AEW programming for the foreseeable future.

The promotion was told by Warner Bros. Discovery recently that they would like the language "toned down" on episodes of Dynamite and Rampage. The issue was addressed by Dave Meltzer in Friday's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

"Word has gotten to the promotion from WBD that they’d like the language toned down. As best we can tell, they have said nothing about the blood," Meltzer wrote.

This is not the first time the company has requested that AEW keep explicit language to a minimum. In 2020, Tony Khan would frequently make announcements before episodes of Dynamite asking fans not to use chants such as, "Holy s**t." Khan clarified the reasons for this during a social media exchange with Ryan Satin.

"The network specifically asked me not to let the crowd chant that, and I’m a good cooperative media partner," the AEW President wrote on Twitter.

Used to be that they’d drop 1 or “shits” or “bullshits” but now every promo is laced with it. If you’re a allowed a couple in a show, save them for the bigger promos. Not for Jade Cargill to say “cut the shit Tony” every week for no gain.

I don't know how 'shit' is still a naughty word. We're not even talking about 'fuck'

The US is the country that still doesn’t allow a “God Damn” on TV. Of course shit will be classed as a big swear word.

AEW has featured like 1 “fuck” when MJF called TK a “fucking mark”.

My understanding is that asomg as you're not network TV, it's up to the network to determine what they're okay with people saying.

Correct. And those Network executives won't allow the Briscoes on the network because of something that happened over 10 years ago, so clearly a set of dinosaurs

Do they ever let Tim Hardaway on their network?
People can change, and per reliable sources (i.e. Riccaboni, who works as a councilor who helps people accept who they are sexually, or something like that) Jay has.

A million percent. There was money put into charity, and then underwent education and all sorts after that whole thing as well as a proper issued apology.

But yet, even some of the shady characters they've allowed onto AEW television are questionable (Jimmy Havoc and Nick Gage to name two) let alone expanding that to the whole network, but they just will not clear The Briscoes to appear.

Nick Gage is a similar category, IMO. He did did his time in prison, therefore society should forgive him.

As a Prison Officer, I agree with you. But if he's allowed on AEW, so should Briscoes.

I just don't believe this whole "Warner execs don't want the Briscoes because of that Twitter comment almost a decade ago". Again, it makes zero sense to sign them for "ROH" if you're still supposedly talking with Discovery/Warner about adding that show on one of their channels (it'll happen, we swear!!!), if that story is actually true obviously and not some cover-up for "the Bucks kept vetoing them (or made boo-boo faces, whichever) until Tiny had the genius idea of signing them for that totally alive brand he bought, away from the Bucks".
