Did You Know: The AEW World Championship...

Post by NWK2000 » Sep 15th, '21, 08:44

Has only missed out on the main event slot of a PPV 3 times in 3 years? Those were...
Fight for the Fallen 2019: The main event was Omega vs. Moxley
And both Stadium Stampedes at Double or Nothing 2020 and 21 respectively

I just thought this was interesting considering that in WWE you go entire title reigns without the WWE Championship being the main event.

1. Not a fair stat because WWE has two world titles and one set of PPVs
2. I'll argue there were times it would have been better to put the women's or tag belts on top

Shida vs. Britt was MUCH bigger than Omega vs. Pac vs. OC (I realize now that that show was also Stadium Stampede, and that match feels a lot less consequential in hindsight. Bucks vs. FTR was MUCH bigger than Moxley vs. Kingston (Full Gear 2020). Ditto with FTR vs. Page & Omega being bigger than MJF vs. Moxley.

Those are solid arguments. I'm a big believer that your world championship should always be your main event unless under extraordinary circumstances but I understand why others would have preferred the listed matches because they were all great

Ah... but are the AEW women's and tag team titles not also world titles? They are the top titles in their the company in their division. If you want fans to see those belts as important, you need to treat them as such.

Pedantic, but true.

But my point is that if AEW wants those titles to be perceived as such (and they certainly seem to, or at least they give lip-service to it to try to keep Twitter mollified), they need to treat them like they would treat the top men's singles title.

A point I'd agree with.
