BRM Reviews the 6/3/2021 NXT UK (great)

NOAM DAR vs. ILJA DRAGUNOV- 8/10
Ilja tweaked his knee so Dar worked it over. They did a GREAT job with that story, and Ilja was, as usual, the best babyface you’ve ever seen, always fighting through the pain and never giving up. An awesome opener.

AOIFE VALKYRIE VIDEO PACKAGE- good
She’ll be back wrestling soon. Hooray!

EARLIER THIS WEEK, SID SCALA GREETS JORDAN DEVLIN UPON HIS RETURN TO NXT UK- very good
Essentially Devlin has a list of arrogant, heelish demands that Scala must meet in order for him to commit to NXT UK (his own dressing room, a fancier rental car, etc.). The only thing here I didn’t like was him demanding to be booked on Supernova sessions so that he could cut a promo. He’s Jordan f*cking Devlin He should just demand his own promo time, not promo time where Noam Dar will surely interrupt and annoy him.

NXT UK TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Pretty Deadly(c) vs. Jack Starz & Nathan Frazier- 6.5/10
This is a tag title match because Johnny Saint decided to make Pretty Deadly put their money where their mouths are after their comments last week when they were taunting Starz.
This was a good babyface vs. heel match, even though the outcome was never in doubt

TYLER BATE VIDEO PACKAGE/PROMO- fine
This was more Zen stuff.

JOSEPH CONNERS (w/Jinny) vs. “FLASH” MORGAN WEBSTER (w/Mark Andrews & Dani Luna)- 5.75/10
Conners wins after interference from Jinny.

WALTER VIDEO PACKAGE- kind of pointless. What matters is that he’ll be back next week.

KAY LEE RAY VS. MEIKO SATOMURA VIDEO PACKAGE- great

RAMPAGE BROWN vs. JOE COFFEY- 7.5/10
Coffey followed up on Wolfgang’s work on Rampage’s ribs from two weeks ago. This was a heck of a match, with some good callbacks to their previous match. Coffey won clean, so they’re now 1-1.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- meh
We got a nice show of respect after the match. Then Ilja Dragunov came out, so he wants a match with one of these two. The closing shot of the two of them in the ring and Ilja visible between them on the ramp while Nigel asked “what does this mean for NXT UK?!” had way too much of a scripted feeling.

A great episode of NXT UK. Just plain old-fashioned good wrestling and good storyline advancement.
