AEW NOTES: WOMEN'S CASINO BATTLE ROYALE AT ALL OUT, ROSTER EXPANSION
source: https://www.f4wonline.com/aew-news/aew- ... ion-342481

During his traditional pay-per-view preview appearance on AEW Unrestricted, president and head booker Tony Khan said the Women's Casino Battle Royale will return at this September's All Out.

He dropped the news while discussing the men's version that is part of this Sunday's Double or Nothing.

The first and only women's version was held at 2019's All Out and was part of the pre-show. Nyla Rose won the 21-woman match, eliminating Britt Baker to advance to the inaugural Women's Championship match against Riho on the first-ever Dynamite.

In talking about the future and with the new one-hour Rampage show debuting in August, Khan said a "huge expansion" is imminent for AEW which includes expanding the roster. He also put over AEW Games becoming bigger as well.

Khan put over Double or Nothing hard, promising it would be one of the best things they have ever done, will have surprises, and that it will be a sold out show at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

Given they have 4 big PPVs a year, I wouldn't mind if each of the 'battle royals' becomes a staple for each show.

You've only got four PPVs a year and you want to spent a spot on each one of them on a big, long, battle royale?

Sure. Leave the Ogogo vs Codys and Pages vs Cages for the smaller in-between shows and have big matches like this on the ppvs.

Ideally you'd find something better for Cody to be doing on a PPV.

And Page vs. Cage is a fine PPV undercard match in terms of story, star-power, and probably quality. Matches like that are how you make a quest for a title shot feel like a real journey. Visible wins over credible opponents, with one's place in the rankings being at at issue.

they're perfectly ok matches, ok for a PPV, but also ok for a lesser special, or even a dynamite main event. I rather have a gimmicky battle royal with title contention results and potential for debuts and returns in a big ppv.

Battle Royales feel cheap. Putting something like Page vs. Cage on PPV puts the focus on both guys. Cage being in that spot will help Cage even though he will inevitably lose if he looks competitive. That doesn't happen with Battle Royales because no one remembers anything but the winners.
