WWE announces talent releases: Anderson, Gallows, EC3, Lio Rush, more

In the wake of Vince McMahon and WWE's Wednesday announcement that the company is making changes to financially navigate their way through the coronavirus pandemic, the company announced the release of several in-ring talents.

This post will be updated as more releases are announced.

Drake Maverick (James Curtin)
Curt Hawkins (Brian Myers)
Karl Anderson (Chad Allegra) and Luke Gallows (Andrew Hankinson)
EC3 (Michael Hutter)
Lio Rush (Lionel Green)
Eric Young (Jeremy Fritz)
Heath Slater (Heath Miller)
Aiden English (Matthew Rehwoldt)
Kurt Angle

Maverick had been announced as one of the eight entrants for NXT's interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament. The tournament is set to begin on tonight's episode of NXT, though WWE hasn't announced which matches will be taking place.

Angle, who has been working in a behind-the-scenes role, was included in the list of releases announced by WWE. English has been working as a commentator for 205 Live.

PWInsider reported that producers Billy Kidman, Mike Rotunda, Dave Finlay, Pat Buck, Shawn Daivari, Scott Armstrong, Sarah Stock, Shane Helms, and Lance Storm have either been furloughed or are gone from WWE.

They're just trying to play up smart business -

Sure-There's relatively no income and revenue right now...but it doesn't matter because it's like they can't afford it otherwise. This isn't early ROH/CZW or TNA...being...imagine brand new independents that theoretically just got started in the same situation. That isn't even in the same universe of the case here.

Yeah-if you're not absolutely on top unexpendable you're out. Who knows how many of these guys will/be able to come back in the future "at a better financial standpoint", but I'd say Rusev is possible.

yeah, it's gotta be hard for some of these guys, especially the produces, to consider getting another job, or wait and see if WWE brings them back once it's possible
