Impact Wrestling 4.12 Review: Demon's Dance Match, Taya vs Rosemary

Impact Wrestling
April 12, 2018
Orlando, Fl

Recap of last week included the Press Conference footage, Aries addressing Patron's no-show, and Aries making the challenge to have a 3-way at Redemption with Penta and Fenix. We also saw a recap of the LU vs Impact show. We saw The Mack, Dreamer, Striker, DJZ, Drake, and Aries all talking about the show. Even Striker sounded good, probably a scripted promo. Intro now includes Fenix and Penta!

Drake Introduces his Tag Partner for Redemption - Great. At WrestleCon, Drake announced that he was cashing in the Tag Title shot at Redemption, tonight he is introducing his partner. Drake is going over and over about having two briefcases, taking forever to make his announcement, and so the champs finally get tired of waiting.

LAX comes out and Konnan tells Drake to get to it. Eli tells Konnan that he knows this man very well, former world champion, and suddenly, the greatest theme to ever exist fills the arena. SCOTT FUCKING STEINER with a mic! Steiner cut one of his promos. I could listen to a Konnan vs Drake/Steiner talk trash to each other all day, as of now, everything was in order and great. I think their tag team name is 'Big Bad Gravy Daddy'. Konnan is seriously edging out Heyman on the mic.

WrestleCon Recap - Josh (Tons of props for his weekend 30 hr Twitch stream) explained the reasoning behind the new Redemption main event explaining that Penta won over Fenix, so Aries wasn't even involved in the finish and thus he offered the title shot to both.

GWN Match - This week we got Jade vs Rosemary cagematch, which made me miss Rosemary's old face paint. New Rosemary is too pretty for a demon.

Sami Callihan w/OVE vs Moose - 7/10
Fuck yeah pissed off Moose! A bit of a dick move if Eddie didn't come out, but after WrestleCon, it's understandable if he's not even in the show today.

Match saw Moose start strong beating the shit out of Callihan, after some spots in the apron, Callihan got some stuff in, but Moose turned it around again. Moose kept the dominance until Callihan pulled the ref in and low blowed Moose with a horse kick while Moose was going for a german. Callihan worked over Moose for a bit until Moose made a comeback. Moose got some good near falls after a Go To Hell and a Discus Lariat. After not being able to get the upper hand on Moose, Callihan went for the bat for the DQ. Match itself was going good until the DQ.

Post-match - Callihan and OVE started working over Moose until Eddie came out for the save, but the numbers game was too much. Alisha came out to protect Eddie, but was quickly cornered by OVE. As they're hinting hitting Alisha with the bat, the lights go out, as they come back on, Tommy Dreamer has taken her place. He hits everyone with a kendo stick and a piledriver on Jake.

Dreamer says that he's been following OVE's antics for a while and he's here to make things even. He challenges OVE to a House of Hardcore match vs Moose, Eddie, and himself. When the lights went off I was expecting either Sting or Sabu, so I guess Dreamer wasn't that off. I'm not a big fan of Dreamer to be honest, but I don't mind him being here as the third guy in this feud if he's here just to support the team. I also wouldn't mind this feud exploding into HoH for some angles either.

Josh Matthews w/Matt Sydal vs Petey Williams - No Rating, Good segment.
Before the match, Josh Matthews cut a promos on Austin Aries and Petey Williams and how he is pissed that he lost his Grand Championship. The ring bell sounded, but Josh avoided Petey for a long while, running around, and only going for cheap shots when Sydal distracted Petey, at one point he Josh even went for a Canadian Destroyer. Petey finally got his hands on Josh, and when setting him up for the Destroyer, Sydal finally got involved for the DQ, but the overall plan of attacking Petey was successful. Sydal and Josh left on top as Petey laid in the mat.

Brian Cage Vignette - Good showcase, a lot of people suffered for the making of this video. It featured Cage's victories over Lashley and Lashley losing his mind over not being able to defeat Cage.

Johnny Impact Interview - Impact talks about Jacobs and Kong, he used the time to make fun of their make up until the duo interrupted. Impact made more jokes and Jacobs told him that Kong was gonna pop Impact's bubble and show that it's not all fun and games. Impact got serious and challenged Kongo for next week. Good interview.

KM & The Cult of Lee vs Tyrus, Fallah Bahh, & Richard Justice - 6.5/10
This is supposed to be about fighting bullying and Sonjay Dutt is making a joke that he needs a T-89 calculator to calculate the combined weight of the babyface's team, then he quickly started shunning on the word 'fat' and bullying. Then he bullied Josh over his performance versus Petey Williams.

Match saw the babyfaces start strong, but when Justice made it in the ring, he was overtaken by KM and company. The heels got heat on Justice for a while, he got cut off until he managed to get away from everyone and tag in Tyrus. The match kinda broke down and Justice got rid of Cult of Lee leaving KM alone with Bahh and Tyrus. Bahh hit the Banzai Drop for the pin and 1-2-3. Short and ok babyface vs heel match.

Demon's Dance Match
Taya Valkyrie vs Rosemary - 7.5/10

Demon's Dance means everything goes, commentary is almost selling this match as whoever wins is likely becoming No 1 contender to whoever wins between Allie and Su Yung at Redemption.

Match went really quick into the ramp area, as they brawled and teased a Red Wedding/Road To Valhalla on the ramp, playing off their previous altercation. Back in the ring, Taya brought in a bunch of chairs and did several spots on Rosemary, including the running knees to the corner and that one where you hit a chair to the balls, in this case, vagina. Rosemary brought in a ladder and a table. Big spot saw both women fight on the top turnbuckle with the table underneath them, Taya teased a Road to Valhalla, but Rosemary turned it into a piledriver into the table for the win.

The match was a lot shorter than what I expected it, but it had enough weapon spots that it didn't feel underwhelming. I think this was a good as a match to close out this rivalry, write Taya out for the Canadian tapings and set up Rosemary as the top contender towards the title past Redemption, but if you ask me, they should do Su Yung vs Rosemary without the title and meanwhile have Allie's reign continue versus someone like Sienna.

Lucha Underground vs Impact Wrestling Recap - This was the longer version of the video we saw earlier, this was actually explained everything that happened between Eddie and Crane, everything involving the main event scene. We got more interviews buy Lucha Underground guys. The Mack hinted that he and Killshot were going after the LAX rematch.

Big build for Pentagon and Fenix as top guys, not just in LU, but in the whole indie scene. Aries addressed the Patron situation, and I still have this 'work' taste in my mouth. They showed the HoH footage of Aries' challenge to Penta and Fenix and they announced that they're showing the Penta vs Fenix vs Aries match next week, likely replacing the pre-taped stuff between Patron and Aries.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
Good show. It was kinda weird ending the show with the WrestleCon recap and not the big Taya vs Rosemary finale, but since it really focused on explaining the whole World Title situation, I don't blame them. They also had a bunch of time to fill since they can't use any of the Patron/Aries stuff they had already taped.

Redemption build was also good. We now have 5 matches set to go. Aries vs Penta vs Fenix, Drake/Steiner vs LAX, Sydal vs Petey, OVE vs Moose/Eddie/Dreamer, and Allie vs Su Yung. I would imagine they find a way to add Cage to the show, and maybe Kongo vs Impact.

Why is Fenix getting a title shot if he lost?

Aries said that while he hadn't lost the match directly by pin, he also hadn't won and he had been taken out by both, and so he had something to prove. In the match, Penta and Fenix hit a double superkick to take out Aries before the finishing sequence where Penta pinned Fenix, Aries didn't get up from those superkicks.

Hmmm...
In that case they should make this an elimination match so that the title can't change hands without Aries being pinned and so that Aries has the chance to pin both guys.

maybe for a second match, but if they're playing around with the fact that the last match ended without the involvement of Aries, it's best to use that and hint that Aries may lose. Best thing would had been to have footage of Fenix having a clear pin over Penta, or even a second match during the weekend with all 3 guys where Fenix pins Penta

The elimination match should be the PPV match, but another match first with Fenix pinning Penta would help. The problem now is that it makes no sense for TNA to book such a match, but one of their partners could easily do so for them and it would make sense.

It also depends on if these guys are doing more Impact dates afterwards. If they will, you can build a program with the dude not getting pinned, and you wouldn't want to pin both men if they're staying. I believe that Impact did offer them deals.
