Impact Wrestling Cali Combat 2019
August 23, 2019
Port Hueneme, California
Full Recap: https://www.f4wonline.com/news/impact-w ... mer-290801

Show took place from the Championship Wrestling from Hollywood venue, which looks great, but the ring is considerably smaller than their usual one.

Michael Elgin vs Rhino - 6.5/10
Show opened with the biggest match of the night. This was a big hoss brawl. They really just went for strikes and shoulder tackles in and out the ring, they started to kinda build for finishers, but they got heated enough that ended up brawling outside and got counted out. I didn't mind this given the news later announced that we're getting a rematch soon, and it served the purpose to intensify their feud.

Post-match - After the ringbell, they kept brawling inside the ring, trading strikes, until referees and security came out for the big pull apart.

Post-Post-Match - Backstage, Elgin cut a promo on Rhino telling him that this isn’t over. Rhino chased him through the halls and they brawled once again, with all the security chasing behind Rhino. This is heating up nicely. These two need to explode in an all out brawl.

Impact World Tag Team Championship Match
The North (C) vs Reno Scum - 7/10
Lester looks in great shape, he has lost some weight and picked up some muscle definition. I'm still kinda disappointed that it was Reno Scum the ones that took on the challenge, I was really hoping for a new team to debut for a one off.

Good match, Reno Scum looked the best they have in Impact, but I do believe this could be better. Story was that The North cut off Thornstowe and worked over him for a while and build to Lester's hot tag. Final minutes were pretty good, where The North hit their finisher on Thornstowe from the corner.

Ace Austin/Alisha Skit - Backstage, Ace Austin pretends to be injured and asks Alisha Edwards to help him get out of his T-shirt.

Madison Rayne talks with Jordynne Grace Backstage - Jordynne Grace was in her locker room when Madison Rayne approached her. Rayne, as the locker room leader, felt it was her duty to tell Grace about Rosemary and warned her that everyone who gets involved with her ends up hurt. Jordynne told Rayne that she doesn’t need Rosemary.

Havok vs Alisha Edwards - Squash
Alisha managed to dodge Havok for a bit at the start, got a couple of strikes in, but once Havok caught her, it was a total squash. Havok tossed her around from the hair, hit a backbreaker, and choked her around the ring. Alisha had a hope spot hitting a top rope plancha, but Havok caught her, hit a Tombstone Piledriver, and pinned Alisha for the 3-count.

Post-match - Ace Austin came out too look after Alisha Edwards, but right behind him, was Eddie Edwads who chased Ace until Eddie mistakenly ran into Havok, who chokeslammed him, allowing Ace to take off with Alisha. Eddie sold for Havok afterwards.

The video was then interrupted by Su Yung talking backwards Twin Peaks style.

oVe Promo - We got a video promo by oVe where Callihan blamed Dave Crist over last week’s loss to Tessa and Dreamer. Calling said that he will soon capture the World Title, because he doesn’t care if Cage is injured or not. He said that tonight, Jake Crist won’t need help defending against Rich Swann. Good stuff.

Moose Interview - We got a video interview from Moose, as he walked with two ladies in LA. He looked amazing. Interviewer asked about Ken Shamrock being there in Las Vegas. Moose said that it was all Shamrock looking to get some attention and so he was coming after Mr. Impact Wrestling himself. He said that he’d been putting down legends for a long time and Shamrock was next.

X-Division Championship Match
Jake Crist (C) vs Rich Swann - 6.5/10
Jake Crist is sporting a new look with blonder hair, sunglasses, and a new vest. This was a good match, but not as good as their previous title match, not as good as they could have, but hey, at least Jake Crist got to look good here, getting clear clean offense on Swann. Crist was landing superkicks from every corner. Crist did pull on the tights for the win after dodging a Lethal Injection.

Tenille Dashwood Vignette - She talked about wrestling all over the world and in some of the best promotions. She said that she wanted to wrestling in the Knockouts and was going straight for Taya’s title.

Desi Hit Squad arrive to the Deaner Farm - We went to the Deaner farm where the Desi Hit Squad has just arrived. Deaners immediately make them wear overalls instead of their traditional clothing. Rohit kinda likes it.

Impact Plus Moment of the Week - It was Ken Shamrock winning the NWA World’s Heavyweight Title in the very first TNA/NWA show in history. Shamrock defeated Malice in the main event, refereed by Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat.

Taya's Press Conference - Taya gave out her address about the Knockouts’ Championship. She brought up that she is on day 229 and as of next week, she’ll be the longest reigning Knockout’s champion in history. She said that to celebrate, she will defend her title against someone new and big in Mexico. Please don't let Faby break the streak!

Willie Mack vs Trey Miguel - 6.5/10
They worked a speed vs power match. Trey hit some Cheeky Nandos and the Trey19, went for the Meteora, but Mack caught him with the Stunner for the win. Short fun match with some potential for a rematch.

Tommy Dreamer Interview - Melissa Santos interviewed Tommy Dreamer about fighting Callihan tonight. Dreamer talked about how Callihan is a bad person, spreading negativity around the wrestling world. He said that tonight, he’ll enjoy beating him up and making the world a better place.

Commentary announced that next week, Rhino vs Elgin will take place with a Falls Count Anywhere stipulation.

No Disqualification match
Sami Callihan vs Tommy Dreamer - 6.5/10
The usual PG-13 weapons match that Dreamer and Callihan would have. They traded momentum a couple of times, used kendo sticks, chairs, ladders, trash cans, and ringbells. Finish saw Dreamer miss a flying elbow onto the ladder and Callihan hitting the Cactus Special onto a plywood bed. Ok match, but nothing special, it was more of a build for the post-match.

Post-match - Callihan went to break Dreamer’s arm between the ladder, but Tessa came out for the save and went to take out Callihan with his own bat, but Jake Crist came out and took her out from behind, leaving her open for a Cactus Special as oVe stood tall in the ring.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
Not much for a special episode, it was a fun and easy watch, but it really did feel like a transition show between tapings. The build for Callihan and Tessa’s title chase moved on in a good way.
