Impact Wrestling 4.27 Review: Decay vs LAX, Street Fight!

Post by cero2k » Apr 28th, '17, 21:52

Impact Wrestling
April 27, 2017

Josh starts the show coming out to the ring, accompanied with HR people and muscle (D'Amore). Josh's entrance video is kinda funny. Josh called Borash 'limped dick'. Borash is being suspended for attacking Josh last week. Before Borash leaves, Pope whispers something in his ear.

Trevor Lee w/Shane Helms vs "Reborn" Matt Sydal! - 6.5/10
Lee is extra pissed tonight. Holy shit! Why didn't they hype this!? Why couldn't Borash be here to mark out for Sydal!? Good short match that consisted of Lee getting tons of heat, then Sydal making a comeback, getting rid of Helms, and taking the win via SSP. Perfect return for Sydal, match was exactly what it needed to be, a great way to start the show.

Low Ki, Sydal, Desmond Xavier, Lee, Andrews, Konley in a mask. This X-Division is getting packed!

Karen Jarrett/Sienna Backstage - Sienna is asking for the GFW Women's champ. Jarrett says CVE is fighting tonight, and that Sienna and CVE happens next week!

ECIII/Storm In-ring Segment - ECIII comes to the ring. He cuts a promo on Bruce Prichard, saying pretty much the same thing as his other 'I already made Impact Great Once" promos. He addresses attacking James Storm last week, which brings him out.

James Storm pretty much jokes around crapping on ECIII, makes reference that his family is not here to protect him, and challenges to a fight. They start brawling, eventually as Storm is about to have the upper hand, ECIII hides behind a lady, low blows Storm, and hits the 1%er. ECIII has gone full heel, even if his promos aren't all delusional yet. His final line was "I'm a Carter, and this company NEEDS me." Good stuff.

KM Skit - It was a weird skit with KM bullying a waiter. KM is officially Biff from Back to the Future, catchphrases and all.

Christina Von Eerie Vignette - She is the Global Force Women's Wrestling Champion. She says she's from the Scum City of Reno, NV, so I take it she joins Reno Scum eventually. She has lost the mohawk and the Toxxin name, but she looks good. She gets to talk and people get to know a little bit of her before returning.

Ava Storie!! vs Christina Von Eerie - 5.5/10
AVA!! <3 Josh does mention that CVE has been to AAA and PWG, she has held the title over two years. Ava is working heel, which is kinda weird, because she's waay to cute to be heel, she's like an angel. Ava got some heat on CVE, but not much, and CVE puts her down quickly. Crowd found it hard to get behind the match, but eventually did. This could have passed as a squash really, but I can't do that to Ava.

Swoggle was out in the crowd messing around with Spud.

Low Ki Story time - This was video package of Low Ki telling us the story of the X-Division and what winning the title means. He was awesome!

ODB Interview - This was 'taped' last week, she says that this is not it. You win some, you lose some, but she's gonna earn another shot and coming back for her.

Natural Born Killers Vignette - Nice, it was mostly a recap of the Wolves Imploding.

Alberto El Patron Interview - McKenzie interviews Patron, he is saying he's the next champ. Magnus interrupts him and saying that HE is next, he is the GFW champ. Karen Jarrett stops them and says that in two weeks, the GFW Championship is on the line as Alberto challenges Magnus.

Moose Vignette - Good stuff, sold the NFL thing, the NOAH thing, made Moose look like a big deal.

Impact Grand Championship
Moose (C) w/D'Angelo Williams and Gary Barnige vs "Lone Wolf" Davey Richards w/Angelina Love - 7/10
Williams and Barnige are NFL players. First round is all Davey working Moose's leg via kicks and F4L, judges give him the round, definitely 3 10-9s. Second round starts with Davey keeping the focus on the leg, but Moose makes a comeback, and since the judges love a comeback story, give the round to Moose (10-9, 9-10, 10-9), but he's definitely hurting. Third round was great, Davey was defeinitely winning the round, he hit a foot stomp and had the ankle lock. Eddie Edwards jumps in and attacks Davey, giving Moose the DQ win, Eddie is later dragged away by security. Davey is talking shit to him as he is being taken. Probably one of the best Grand Championship Rules match I've seen, unfortunately with a bad finish, but at least the finish makes sense.

Post-Match - The two footballers attack Davey afterwards as he gets cocky with them.

One of the guys that lost to LAX last week cut a post-match promo from last week. I kinda wanna see him come back.

Swoggle was messing around with Spud again, they got in the ring and Swoggle lost his pants. Chants of "Josh Sucks" and "Josh You're Boring" are starting to get loud.

Matt Sigmon vs Kongo Kong w/Sienna, KM, and Laurel Van Ness - Squash
Sigmon I swear has to be an unmasked mini from Mexico. Nothing special, there was a sign that said "Hot Mess Van Ness", that would be a great nickname for her.

Fallah Bahh & Mario Bokara vs Veterans of War - squash
VOW make their 'debut', completely failed to predict this. It's Crimson and Jax Dane, now goind as Mayweather and Wilcox respectively, they actually look great, Willcox looks like a beast, but no one is as awesome as Fallah Bahh! Match was a complete squash, they have a magic killer and a total elimination in their arsenal.

Post-Match - Mayweather cuts a promo introducing themselves, he tells the fans about their tours overseas and that they're coming for the tag titles. Mayweather was actually really good in the mic.

Swoggle during the commercial break came out and attacked Spud with a freaking hammer! Holy shit, this went from 0 to Blood feud in less than an hour.

Eli Drake and Tyrus Backstage - E-LI-DRAKE is pissed they were not included in the last week's live show, that all these new guys are coming in and getting title shots and they're no. Almost the same as ECIII.

Street Fight for the Impact Tag Team Championships
Decay w/Rosemary vs LAX w/Diamante, Konnan, and Homicide - 7.5/10
I'm really gonna miss this team, this is the most I've cared about Abyss since James Mitchell left. LAX is kinda over, but this definitely is supposed to be heel vs heel. Match started with some brawling and eventually tables, chairs, and bardwire boards were introduced to the match, Homicide accidentally revealed the thumbtack bag while passing around a trashcan. Match was all back and forward, momentum kept changing sides.

Halfway through the match, Rosemary got involved, but missed the red mist and hit Abyss, Diamante took her out and they brawled to the back. After that LAX dominated Abyss, who got speared through the Barbie Board, then sandwiched with another and taken out with a rolling senton. Steve started to dominate then, he looked good even taking out Homicide, and as he is about to hit a stomp on Ortiz with thumbtacks, but Santana cuts him off and they hit that Doomsday Neckbreaker move on the table that had the tacks. LAX retains. You can hear some boos, but not sure if they were piped in.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
Good show from Impact, either good matches or squashes, which I think is the way it should be done. Last week they gave the X-Division the main event and tons of time, now it was the Tag Division's turn to get tons of time at the end. Overall all stories were good and moving towards Slammiversary. Great new people came in on this show, Sydal, CVE, and VOW all looked great in their 'returns'. Next week only has CVE vs Sienna announced, which could be good.

1. Is a DQ win i his debut really that helpful to Sydal?
2. Is this really an "escalation" to Eddie and Davey's feud at this point? They've already had street fights and Davey's wife assaulted Eddie's. How is Davey interfering in a meaning match against Matt Sydal really an escalation? What it really is is a lazy booker's way of getting the feud on TV without actually progressing anything. If you want to make Sydal look strong in his debut give him agood clean win over someone else.

Sydal already debuted with a win, he'll have a good face vs face second match. Yeah, they had a street fight that Davey won, Eddie made his comeback when Davey thought he was free to go and now Davey will have to finish what he started.

It's taking a match that people actually want to see and giving it a sh*t finish.

also a match were no one should lose cleanly to the other one, to which you'll say, 'don't book the match then', to which i'll say 'wrestling has DQ finishes sometimes, it doesn't hurt anyone"

It hurts the products, especially one like TNA which has a terrible reputation for this this short of thing.

it hurts when it is matches with high stakes, something with a huge build, or when the shit finish is just to protect people or force a feud to continue, this is neither the case, it's a curtain jerker of a match with no stakes whatsoever, this is just friendly competition that will get interrupted because Davey attacking Eddie is what makes sense. Also, all this discussion is complete speculation that Davey is attacking Eddie, we don't really know yet

In the beginning it only hurts when you do it in high-stakes matches or just to protect people and force feuds to continue. But after you do what TNA has done and do DQs and sh*t finishes for years and years and years, any DQ or sh*t finish comes across as "yet another" DQ or sh*t finish and cements the idea that this promotion will never change. The very fact that your initial reaction to this exciting match bring posted was "it will probably just in a DQ" illustrates the damage that has been done already.
