BRM Reviews WWF No Way Out 2000

Post by Big Red Machine » Jan 21st, '12, 20:48

WWF No Way Out 2000 (2/27/2000)- Hartford, CT

WWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH: Chris Jericho(c) (w/Chyna) vs. Kurt Angle- 7/10. Great opener. Decent pre-match promos by both men.

DUDLEYS PROMO- Great

WWF WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The New Age Outlaws(c) vs. The Dudley Boyz- 5/10. Great for such a short match, but disappointingly short for a match between these two teams on PPV.

MARK HENRY vs. VISCERA- DUD! The combination of it being short, not particularly exciting, and the lights going out makes this an absolute dud.

CHRIS JERICHO PROMO- okay

EDGE & CHRISTIAN vs. THE HARDY BOYS (w/Terri & The APA)- 7.25/10. Good aftermath, too.

TAZZ vs. THE BIG BOSSMAN (w/Prince Albert)- no rating. This was a very well done segment, but it is the sort of thing that belongs on TV, leading up to a PPV. Not on the PPV itself.

NO HOLDS BARRED MATCH: Kane (w/Paul Bearer) vs. X-Pac (w/Tori)- 6.25/10

TOO COOL & RIKISHI vs. THE RADICALZ (Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, & Perry Saturn) (w/Eddie Guerrero)- 6.5/10. I comepletely disagree with which team was booked to win this match.

WINNER GETS A WWF TITLE SHOT AT WRESTLEMANIA: The Rock vs. The Big Show- 4.5/10. Everything involving the chair just made no sense here at all, and the ref bump looked extremely weak. A very disappointing match.

TITLE VS. CAREER HELL IN A CELL MATCH FOR THE WWF TITLE: Triple H(c) (w/Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley) vs. Cactus Jack- 9.75/10. You never really got the sense that they were going to be able to use the fire. I also think that it would have worked much better if Triple H had just pinned Foley after the bump through the cell. Either that or have Hunter pin Foley after multiple Pedigrees. (I’m talking something like five. An amount that would just give you the “there is no way in hell he can kick out type of feeling. Only one just seemed anti-climactic after the giant bump through the cell and the fall off of it. Otherwise, an absolutely outstanding match that fit the brutality of both the feud and the gimmick match, and was a perfect retirement match for Foley.

Overall, an awesome show from the WWF with some strong matches and a nearly perfect main event.

Stupid Announcer Quotes:
1. JR (about the Dudleys) “driving human beings through those tables like they were animals”- does JR think it is normal to powerbomb animals through tables?

Usually the expression is something like "caged up like animals," or some other actually animal relate behavior. If you are going to compare someone's behavior to that of an animal, you should make sure that the behavior you are comparing is animalistic.

You're nit-picking BRM; you're looking at the denotation of the word instead of the connotation of the phrase. We all knew what JR meant bc people SPEAK like that. There are a lot of phrases that don't make sense on paper in the English language, but you know what someone means when they say it; we understand the connotation.

Plus, if you're gonna ask " does JR think it is normal to powerbomb animals through tables?", you DO realize JR was referring to the guys PERFORMING the move, not the ones taking it. You should have been asking "does JR think it's normal for ANIMALS to powerbomb things through tables" right?

I usually let these sorts of things go, but with this one I just went "WTF?!" It took me a while to stop laughing, and this isn't a case of misspeaking as much as it is a simile that doesn't make sense, which, in my book, is stupid announcing.
