BRM Reviews the 11/26/2021 Rampage

ORANGE CASSIDY & WHEELER YUTA vs. ADAM COLE & BOBBY FISH- 6/10
A good match hurt by early clownishness.

TONY SCHIAVONE INTERVIEWS TONY NESE- good
Despite being around pro wrestling for well over thirty years at this point, Tony Schiavone was too dumb to figure out that the guy sitting in the crowd was scouting his opponents. Apparently these is an open challenge for the TNT Title coming up, and Nese wants the shot. He claims Sammy Guevara has a weakness he has seen that other challengers have failed to notice and exploit.
Sammy Guevara showed up and was angry because Nese said he was “unimpressed” with him. Grow up, dude. They agreed to a title match next week and shook hands, but Nese pulled Sammy back and forearmed him in the side of the head. It looked kind of soft for a shot that put Sammy Guevara down. Nese said that the only reason Sammy was champion was because “guys like me weren’t around.”

FTR VIDEO PACKAGE/PROMO- fine
They want a two out of three falls match for the AEW World Tag Team Titles against the Lucha Bros. to prove that the Lucha Bros. win was a fluke.

IF RIHO WINS, SHE EARNS AN AEW WOMEN’S TITLE SHOT: Riho vs. Britt Baker (w/Jamie Hayter & Rebel)- 6.75/10
Riho won clean with a roll-up, setting up a title shot.

They advertised a bunch of matches for next week, including Bryan Danielson vs. Alan Angels in another “Danielson takes out the Dark Order” match. I’m still waiting for an explanation for why Tony Khan doesn’t just book the undefeated top star Danielson against the babyfaces fighting champion Adam Page.

MARK HENRY’S INTERVIEW WITH THE MAIN EVENTERS- Kingston was good, but 2.0 brought this down with their usual clownishness.

EDDIE KINGSTON vs. DANIEL GARCIA (w/2.0)- 7.25/10
Garcia was won six of his past eight… but none of them have been on TV, so he still feels like a jobber.
Kingston won a really great match… but Garcia has been portrayed as too much of geek lately for this to elevate him in my eyes. I love the way the guy works, but as long as he is associated with 2.0, he’ll always feel like an undercard guy, and so instead of bringing Garcia up, this loss felt like it brought Eddie down.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- meh
2.0 attacked Eddie after the match. Chris Jericho made the save because he found himself drawn to the ring by the magnetic force that draws loud, obnoxious Canadians together. At least this meant Jericho wasn’t on commentary anymore (although I will say that this was a better night for him than most. Much less screaming).

A decent episode of Rampage.

Because Danielson keeps finding excuses to postpone the match, Page has been challenging him. It's Danielson that wants to run this gauntlet

But none of those excuses would exist if Tony would just book the f*cking match and announce a date. Danielson will have ample time to prepare and won't have already wrestled. Danielson said that he was going to beat up a member of the Dark Order each week until he is given his title shot. He's doing this because he isn't being given the thing he earned.

The answer is "because they want to wait for the big show," but they're not going to say that because they know that doing so makes it so that Tony isn't giving the fans and the wrestlers what they want all because he wants to make money with either ad revenue (if it's on Battle of the Belts) or PPV buys (if it's on a PPV).

The story they're telling works if you have a worthy face challenger against a cowardly heel who is putting roadblocks in the babyface's way (Nigel and Dragon's PPV story in 2008) or if you have an unworthy heel trying to provoke the babyface into giving him a title shot he hasn't earned. What AEW has here is a worthy heel and babyface champion, plus a babyface authority figure, so there is no reason for Tony Khan not to sit down with everyone and get this hammered out.
