BRM Reviews the 11/11/2021 NXT UK

Post by Big Red Machine » Dec 28th, '21, 11:36

MARK ANDREWS vs. NATHAN FRASIER- 7.75/10
This was flips, kicks, and athleticism, but at a digestible pace, and making sure every move meant something. Intercepting a springboard attempt with a Solo Spanish Fly was awesome. An excellent opener!

EARLIER THIS WEEK, A-KID CONFRONT SAM GRADWELL ABOUT GRADWELL’S COMMENTS LAST WEEK- good
A-Kid wants a match against Gradwell. Gradwell’s line that “Thunderstorms don’t make plans; they change plans” was awesome.

PRETTY DEADLY LEARN DANCING WITH SOME MALE STRIPPERS- odd segment
We were told that they picked up the techniques naturally. They said (paraphrasing) “if we’re serious about that, imagine how serious we’ll be about our tag titles.” This was an odd way to make a point that I don’t think had to be made. They’ve been serious already. They’re entertaining, but they don’t come across as jokes who you can’t take seriously in the ring.

KENNY WILLIAMS INTERVIEWS IS INTERRUPTED BY SAXON HUXLEY MAKING LOUD NOISES- bad
Williams was annoyed at Huxley and was mean to him. Huxley’s new phrase to repeat is “Kenny Cockroach.” All Saxon Huxley segments are bad.

DANI LUNA vs. STEVIE TURNER- 5.75/10
A solid win for Luna while still letting Turner look credible. They continue to effectively push her as the division’s powerhouse.

THE NINA SAMUELS SHOW- fine
Nina tries to interview Isla Dawn but Isla ignores her. Nina goes on a rant about some people are so unprofessional, such as Isla and Aleah James. James just happens to be walking by, so they agree to a rematch.

GALLUS VIDEO- very bad
First of all, they said nothing particularly useful other than reminding us that they’re feuding with Rohan Raja and Teoman.
Secondly, this was a multi-camera shoot of these guys driving in a car, which is just about the most staged thing you can do. And if you’re someone like Nina Samuels or Cara Noir or Killer Kross- someone else who has taken pains to establish an artsy component to their character- that can work. Gallus are the complete opposite of that, so this came off as fake.
Thirdly, at the end, they were pursued by the police, and one of them said “not again.” Then that one said something. I couldn’t understand the thick Scottish accent, but he either told the driver to pull over or to run. Obviously the latter would be very bad, but even if it was the former, the fact that getting moving violations is apparently a regular thing for these guys a rather unlikable trait. It’s hard to cheer for someone who makes everyone else on the road less safe.

SUBCULTURE’S INTERVIEW IS INTERRUPTED BY BLAIR DAVENPORT- good
They were celebrating their wins tonight. Davenport showed up to be a jerk, but they ignored her.

FATAL FOUR-WAY #1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH: Moustache Mountain vs. Jack Starz & Dave Mastiff vs. Ashton Smith & Oliver Carter vs. Symbiosis (w/Eddie Dennis)- 8/10
Dennis got ejected from ringside after interfering. Moustache Mountain picked up the win in a match with great action, and where all three babyface teams felt like believable winners. I imagine there is some sort of story being told here that will either lead to Moustache Mountain losing and breaking up or to one of the other babyface teams getting annoyed at their late insertion into this match and turning on them.

A great episode of NXT UK in the ring, though with some very questionable goings-on outside of it.
