BRM Reviews the 11/7/2019 NXT UK (GREAT... until the last few minutes)

TYSON T-BONE vs. JOE COFFEY- 4/10
Coffey’s back got worked over but he made a comeback and won. The spinning clothesline he used to get the win didn’t look like something that would put someone down at all.

ALICIA TAYLOR INTERVIEWS XIA BROOKSIDE- a decent interview to build up to a match against NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray-

RIDGE HOLLAND IS COMING SOON- He is a shadow figure who walks about with a small stick. He promises that “someone’s gonna get hurt.” I wasn’t impressed by this.

PIPER NIVEN VIDEO PACKAGE, PART ONE- great babyface stuff

ISLA DAWN vs. KILLER KELLY- 4.75/10
I was certainly not expecting that result and they definitely found a perfect way to do it to make it seem definitely while still taking you by surprise.

KASSIUS OHNO PROMO/VIDEO PACKAGE- awesome!
He’s wrestling Tyler Bate next week and just rips him (and the rest of British Strong Style) to shreds here. Also announced for next week is Kay Lee Ray vs. Xia Brookside and Travis Banks vs. El Ligero.

“FLASH” MORGAN WEBSTER & MARK ANDREWS vs. GRIZZLED YOUNG VETERANS- 8.25/10
A nice, long, awesome main event tag team match that was totally ruined by its finish. Mark Coffey and Wolfgang of Gallus came out to watch the match and stood there for about ten minutes, just watching until Imperium’s Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel came out. At that point Gallus, who seemed like they had been turning babyface, ran away form the guys they made fun of the other week to beat up an innocent babyface tag team and ruin our main event.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- hated it!
Imperium came down and beat up GYZ, and we wound up with Gallus and Imperium staring at each other from the floor on opposite sides of the ring. Alexander Wolfe came out to make it three-on-two, and Joe Coffey appeared almost immediately, coming out through the crowd. Then both teams got up onto the aprons. Then WALTER came out, music and all, and we had a big stare-down. Then Ilja Dragunov’s music hit and he came out and Imperium made a place for him in line and he took that place briefly, only to then walk over to the other side and join Gallus, and only after another stare-down did they all start to fight on cue.
The DQ had already put me in a bad mood, but this totally killed any interest in my planned binging NXT UK to catch up tonight. This was painfully choreographed to the extreme, but perhaps even worse was the anticlimax that this was for the Ilja/Imperium story. What a completely random place to blow that storyline off, and in such a frustratingly premature manner. We barely even saw them interact, didn’t see Ilja dealing with any temptations to join them or even much in the way of recruitment efforts on their part. An extremely frustrating conclusion to an otherwise great episode of NXT UK.
